Maddy Gates, Reedley High Pirates girls volleyball senior, goes up for a kill during the Pirates' 3-0 win over McLane High School on Sept. 25 at Reedley High School. As of Oct. 2, the Pirates are 24-4-1 overall and 4-0 in the North Yosemite League.

to get into a routine without having to change focus for tournaments and get all of the players to focus on improving our play.”
Reedley High also beat Lemoore High School 3-0 on Sept. 26 in Lemoore.
Reedley High is 26-4-1 overall and 4-0 in the NYL.
Midway through the sea- son, the Pirates have emerged as one of the teams to beat, not only in the NYL, but also in Di- vision III.
Tatami said that the team is looking forward to the play- offs, but he knows that they need to stay focused on win- ning the NYL first.
“They definitely are look- ing at the playoffs, which has been one of their goals for the season, but we keep them grounded and focused on the job at hand by concentrating on execution and level of play.
Increasing error rates are not acceptable and we need to avoid that along with any lapses in play that could cost you a match,” Tatami said. “It helps to have so many seniors, as their leadership and experi- ence is valuable in maintain- ing focus on getting the job done during league play while always looking to improve and raise the level of play in prep- aration for the playoffs.”
According to Maxpreps, Reedley High is currently ranked No. 2 in Division III. The Pirates have a good chance to earn the No. 1 overall seed in the Division III playoffs be- cause they beat No. 1 ranked Yosemite High School in the season opener.
“The team is very confi- dent in its ability to play with any opponent and feel that we have proven it in our play. We have been very fortunate this season in having every single player on the team focused on working hard together,” Tatami said. “They share in the success
of the team. In regards to the division, we are hoping for a good seeding. We have a head to head win over Yosemite High School, who happens to be the No. 1 ranked team in the divi- sion, but we do not have a say in our destiny for the postseason except to play the schedule out and then prepare for whoever is on the playoff schedule.”
The Pirates played Hoover High School on Oct. 2. No score was available at presstime.
They then will play Roo- sevelt High School on Thurs- day, Oct. 4 in Reedley, before playing McLane High School on Tuesday, Oct. 9, in Fresno.
“The season to date has been very special and the coaches feel very fortunate to just be a part of it,” Tatami said. “The girls hard work for the past few seasons is paying off and we hope that the com- munity will continue to turn out and support this team well into the post season. Our thanks to everyone.”

Staff Report
The Orange Cove Titans football team is 7-0 after a 30-6 victory over Fowler High School on Sept. 28 in Orange Cove.
The Titans are 3-0 in the West Sequoia League and tied for first place with Caruthers High School who is 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the WSL.
“We knew we had our work cut out. My staff put together an amazing game plan,” said Tony Gates, Or- ange Cove head coach. “We knew exactly what they were going to do, and we prepared the players.”
Mario Reynosa had 21 carries for 170 yards and three touchdowns.
In seven games this sea- son, Reynosa has 91 carries for 683 yards and 18 touch- downs.
Coach Gates said that Ma- rio has worked hard all season even after ups and downs.
“Mario is an interesting
story. At one point in the off season I actually dismissed him from the team. He wasn't taking care of business in the classroom, and didn't have a very good attitude,” Gates said. “That woke him up. He has completely changed, and he works as hard as anyone else on the team. His un- derstanding of our blocking scheme has allowed him to have great vision. His work ethic in the weight room shows when he gets behind his pads on the goal line.”
Reynosa is currently ranked second in the entire Central Section for touch- downs.
Orange Cove plays Parli- er High School on Friday, Oct. 5 in Parlier.
“We tell our kids we need to go 1-0 each week and that is it. We are trying to teach the kids how to win, and how to stay the course,” Gates said. “We work really hard on outworking our opponent that week and nothing else.”
