Pirates sail to NYL title

The Reedley High Pi- rates girls swim team won 11 out of 12 events in a dominant performance at the North Yosemite League Championships.
The Pirates compiled a team score of 581 points to defeat Sunnyside High School, which finished in second place with 404 points, on May 4 and 5 at Sunnyside High School.
Reedley High's 200 yard relay team of Elise Thiesen, Jade Gill, Lorin- da Ledington and Alina Hodges paved the way for the Pirates by winning the opening event.
Their time of 2 min- utes, 4 seconds was 12 seconds better than the second-place team from Fresno High.
Hodges then kept the momentum going for Reedley High by winning the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:19, while Thie- sen took second.

The Reedley High Pirates boys and girls track and field teams won a sixth straight North Yosemite League Championship on May 4 at Sunnyside High School in Fresno.

The Pirates defeated Hoover High 11-1 on May 10 in Reedley to capture the title.
Reedley High ended the regular season 20-7-1 overall and 9-1 in the NYL.
The Pirates received the No. 5 seed in the Division III playoffs and will play at No. 4 seed Tehachapi High on May 16.

For a sixth straight year, the Reedley High Pirates boys and girls track teams reign su- preme in the North Yosemite League.
Both Pirates teams won NYL Championships on May 4 at Sunnyside High School.
The Pirates boys team compiled 159 points to beat McLane High which finished second with 112 points. The girls team had 177 points, while Sunnyside High took second with 146 points.
Here are some of the results from the event.
The Pirates boys team was led by distance runners Cris- tian Gomez and Alex Garcia, who each won NYL titles.
Gomez led the Pirates by winning the 1600-meter and 3200-meter races. Gomez's time in the 1600-meters was 4 minutes, 30 seconds, while Garcia earned a second place.
Gomez also won the 3200-meters, while Adrian Ro- driguez took second and Mat- thew Jarrett finished third.
Garcia won the 800-meter race with a time of 2:01.66.
Spencer Boling took the top spot in the high jump, clearing a height of 5 feet, 8 inches. He also had a secondplace finish in the 300-meter hurdles.
Reedley High's 4x400 re- lay team of Casper Nevarez, Gomez, Jorge Meza and Alex Garcia won their race with a time of 3:38.03.
Anthony Lujan won the dis- cus event with a throw of 131 feet, five inches. He also finished in second place in the shot put.
Quinn Johnson rounded out the Pirates' dominance with a win in the pole vault clearing a personal record height of 12 feet, 2 inches.
Reedley High's girls track team was led by Elizabeth Bi-
envenue, who took the top spot in the 100-meters race with personal record time of 12.94 seconds. Kalese Sunamoto finished fifth with a personal record time of 13.86.
Crystal Macedo won the 100-meter hurdles with a per- sonal record time of 18.73. Ivy Duong finished second with a personal record of 18.78 . Du- ong and Jasmin Aguado were second and third, respectively, in the 300-meter hurdles.
Duong set personal re- cords in the shot put, where she finished in second-place with a throw of 31 feet, 10 inches, and the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 53.61.
Trinity Toews came in sec- ond in the 400-meters, while Jasmine Garcia finished second in the 800-meters with a per- sonal record time of 2 minutes, 36.15 seconds. Jennifer Huerta also set a personal record in the 800-meters with a time of 2:49.62. Ximena Ramos took second in the 3200-meters.
Gricelda Meza took third place in the 200-meters with a personal record time of 28.96.
Sunamoto, Bienvenue, Lei- la Wright and Toews won the 4x100 relay and Bienvenue, Sunamoto, Aguado, Toews won the 4x400 relay.
Maddy Gates won first place in the high jump clearing 4 feet, 10 inches. Gates also took third in the triple jump. Crys- tal Macedo won the Pole vault clearing a height of 7 feet, while Samantha Flowler ended in sec- ond place with a height of 6 feet. Emely Torres took third with a personal record of 5 feet.
Aguado and Pricilla Mira- montes each set personal re- cords in the long jump. Mira- montes took fifth place with a jump of 13 feet, 7 inches, while Aquado took seventh with a jump of 13 feet, 4 inches.

With their game against the Fresno High Warriors on May8tied3-3inthetopof the eighth inning, the Reed- ley High softball team was on the brink of losing the top spot in the North Yosemite League.
That's when Reedley
High's bats exploded, scor- ing 10 runs in the top of the eighth inning – aided by three home runs –to defeat the Warriors 13-4 and cap- ture their third straight NYL Championship.
Reedley High secured the program's sixth league cham- pionship in seven seasons.
“You had to have been there to feel the energy. It
was intense. We had stum- bled earlier in league and we had a lot riding on that one game against Fresno,” said Kathryn Buckley, Reedley High head coach. “It was important to the girls. They wanted to make it clear that they were the rightful league champions. I’m proud to see the way they came together, faced a challenging situation
