Area runners do well at Section Championships

Sanger’s Nia Llamas runs alongside Madera’s Unique Ford in the Division 2 race. Ford went on to win defend her crown while Llamas helped the Lady Apaches clinch a spot in Saturday’s state finals.
The Dinuba High girls cross country team wrapped up its season on Thursday, November 14 at the Central Section Cham- pionships held at Woodward Park.
The Lady Emperors fin- ished 12th overall with 326 points in the Division III team standings. The winner of the section crown was Edison with 96, just three points ahead of runner-up Corcoran.
Coach Lucas Lichten- waldt said the race was tough for the team.
“We were never really able to get going through- out the race,” he said. “Luz Diaz, our number one, was running with a hip issue and we really didn’t have any- one else take charge and go for it.”
Sophomore Natalie Crisosto was the team’s top runner as she finished 54th overall in a time of 22 min-
utes, 21.44 seconds. Junior Luzmi Ramirez was right behind in 55th in a time of 22:22.19.
Diaz closed out her cross country career finishing in 61st place in 22:33.47. Senior Yaquelin Avilez had a time of 23:08.16 for 78th place and classmate Jackie Del- gado was timed in 23:22.44 that placed her 85th overall. Juniors Ali Ontiveros and Amanda Soto were 91st and 114th with times of 23:47.65
and 24:50.02, respectively. Despite the results, Lich- tenwaldt said he was proud
of the girl’s efforts.
“The girls ran hard and
we’ll take some lessons away from the meet and seeifwecanuseitasmo- tivation for track and cross country seasons,” he said. “They have a lot to cele- brate this season and hope- fully we can celebrate a bit longer into the year next season.”
Sanger High girls, two boys move on to State

The Lady Apaches ran a hard- fought race and placed 2nd in one of the closest finishes in section histo- ry. Thetopfourteamswerewithin 12 points of each other.
The Sanger girls battled through the line to get the second qualifying spottothestatemeet. Theyoutran strong teams from Paso Robles and Maderatopunchtheirticket. The girls team is only the 2nd team in school history to qualify for the state meet and the first team in 20 years (1999).
The girls were led by Nia Lamas (18:32), Rebeca Coronado (18:59), Sienna Bianchi (19:48), Jessica Re- cinos (20:08), Anayacsi Diaz (20:39), Jennifer Recinos (20:44), Kaley Cardenas (21:19).
The girls ran another school re- cord time averaging 19:37 per run- ner. Rebeca’s time is the 3rd fastest ever for an apache. Sienna’s time is #7 all time. The girls team continue the season at the state champion- ships on Nov. 30.
The Sanger High boys ran what was one of the fastest division 2 rac- es in section history. With top seed and defending D3 state champions Ridgeview in the race, it was going to be a fast day.
The boys ran their hearts out and placed 3rd in the race, running the second fastest team time in school history by averaging 16:29 per run- ner.
The team was led by 10th grader Emanuel Salas (15:58), David De- Loera (16:11), Jayden Olea (16:30),
Adrian Cuellar (16:51), Benjamin Awad (16:53), Myles Nicacio (17:07), Juan Zamora (18:26). Emanuel’s time was good enough for a 10th grade school record and put’s Da- vid at #3 all time. Emanuel (4th) and David (7th) both placed in the top 10 qualifying them as individuals to the state championships next Saturday.
The top five boys ran lifetime bests and placed themselves in the top 50 list of all time for Sanger runners. Emanuel (#5), David (#7), Jayden (#19), Adrian (#29), Ben (#30). Myles Nicacio finishes his season as the top freshman in the en- tire league (CMAC) and the #2 fresh- man in the entire section across all divisions from Merced to Bakers- field. The two qualifying boys’ race at 9:30 a.m. Both races will be held at Woodward park.
Dinuba High girls finish outside top ten with top runner hobbling
Dinuba’s Natalie Crisosto led Dinuba with a 53rd place finish in a time of 22:21.34.

Bring on Bishop: The Bishop Union Broncos (11-2) captured their 10th straight win on Friday against Lindsay while OHS enters with a seven game win streak. The one common opponent Bishop and Orosi have faced is California City. The Broncos defeated the Ravens, 7-0, on Nov. 1.

Lady Cardinals finish ninth in Division 5 championships
The Orosi High girls cross country team placed ninth overall at the section meet with 216 points as the Lady Cardinals were led by senior Daniela Tejeda. Tejeda was 38th in 24:35.83 while sophomores Ale- jandra Lopez and Haydee Sanchez were 44th and 54th overall with times of 23:12.25 and 25:57.33.
Freshman Angelina Lo- pez was 74th in 31:17.12 and senior Milca Dimas was 77th in 33:29.72.
Orange Cove athletes who took part in the section finals were juniors Alondra Rodriguez (49th, 25:33.26), Ivette Rocha-Sanchez (70th, 29:42.83), Ana Gonzalez
rushing and throws the ball well. They have a fast physical defense that flys around the ball.”
McLean has account- ed for 727 yards through the air and 1,032 on the ground with 24 total touchdowns.
White said he likes the Cardinals chances if they can contain McLean.
“If we can contain their QB and put up a couple of scores, we’ll have a good chance. It’s also supposed to snow up there so that is adding to the excitement!”

sophomore Francisco Pa- lacios (95th, 22:4021), se- nior Adrian Arriaga (100th, 23:09.84), sophomore Leo- nel Serna-Sanchez (101st, 23:12.66) and junior Allen Anderson (103rd, 23:16.09).
Nayely Ramirez will be the lone Parlier High rep- resentative at Saturday’s CIF State Cross Country Championships at Wood-
ward Park.
The senior got a berth
into the finale after plac- ing seventh at the section championships on Nov. 21. Ramirez, competing in Division V, had a time of 21:16.95.
Junior Alejandro Val- dovinos finished 74th in a time of 18:54.75 in the boys Division IV race.
