The index is a leading economic indicator from a survey of individu- als making company purchasing de- cisions for firms in the counties of Fresno, Kings, Madera and Tulare. The index is produced using the same methodology as that of the national Institute for Supply Management.
“Both durable and non-durable goods manufacturing reported solid gains for the month,” said Dr. Er- nie Goss, research faculty with the Craig School of Business at Fresno State. “As in recent months, con- struction activity in the San Joaquin Valley continued to expand at a very healthy pace. I expect this pace to remain strong for the next three to
six months.”

Blighted house demolished
Jon Earnest / The Exponent
Work crews with Yanez Construction of Reedley dig up tree roots from the property at 1527 S. Frankwood Ave., on Aug. 2. Crews later would tear down the abandoned house pictured behind the backhoe. The Reedley City Council voted to formally declare the property a nuisance on June 12, paving the way for demolition of the structure that was damaged by fire in 2014. Had the council not approved the nuisance designa- tion, the city would have had to wait until 2022 to consider buying the land or taking other options. Demolition was completed by the end of the day Aug. 3, and all that remained to be done on the property is smoothing the ground. The city funded the project by taking $20,000 from 2011 redevelopment agency fees to cover demolition costs.
