Obituaries
Larry Esparza Jr.
Larry Esparza Jr. of Dinuba died April 13 in Reedley. He was 51.
Mr. Esparza worked as a plant manager.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, three daughters, one brother and 12 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. with a Celebra- tion of Life service at 3 p.m. at Dopkins Funeral Chapel in Dinuba.
Richard Madrid
Richard Madrid died Nov. 15, 2018. He was 89.
A private family ser- vice was held. A Celebra- tion of Life service was held at the American Le- gion Hall in Orange Cove on April 12.
Cecilia L. Nunez
Cecilia L. Nunez of Reedley died April 28 in Reedley. She was 95.
Mrs. Nunez worked with direct care staff.
She is survived by seven sons, seven daugh- ters, one brother and many grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. with a rosary at 10:30 a.m. and funeral mass at 11 a.m. Friday, May 3, at the new St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Reed- ley. Burial will be at Reed- ley Cemetery.
Terry Shirley
Terry Shirley of Squaw Valley died April 24. He was 71.

The public is invited to attend the Reedley Park- way Committee regular May meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, in the Council Cham- bers at City Hall, 845 G St.
The agenda includes dis- cussion on a number of Rails to Trails Parkway mainte- nance issues along with dis- cussion on a number of park- way enhancements. Those enhancements include recent plantings as part of a Tree
Fresno program, a proposed Cal Fire tree grant consist- ing of 70 trees at nine sites on the parkway (planting will be done with the Reedley High School Leo Club), and an ad- ditional 50 new and replace- ment tree plantings.
Another topic will be dis- cussion of the mural program for 2019 and plans for relo- cating murals from the Royal Valley building which was re- cently demolished. The mu- rals currently are in storage at the city’s corporation yard.
Mr. Shirley worked as a water well driller.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, two brothers, two sisters, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jose Solarzano
De La Cruz
Jose Solarzano De La Cruz of Parlier died April 24. He was 51.
Mr. Solarzano De La Cruz worked as a truck driver for United Delivery Solutions.
He is survived by his wife, four sons, three brothers, one sister, his father and one grand- child.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. Friday, May 10 at Wallin’s Parlier Funeral Home. A chapel service will at at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at Wallin’s Parlier Funeral Home.
Bruce Uyeda
Bruce Uyeda of Reed- ley died April 9. He was
66.
Mr. Uyeda worked as
an ag purchasing agent. He is survived by his wife,two daughters and numerous nephews, nieces
and cousins.

will be held at 10 a.m. Sat- urday, May 11, at Palm Vil- lage Retirement Center.

The annual Fresno County 4-H Fair will be held on Saturday, May 11, at Reed- ley College.
Shows are set to begin at 8:30 a.m. and a dog show will begin at 9 a.m.
The 4-H Fair is an educational expe-
rience for all who attend. Club members will show their rabbits and goats at the livestock barn.
At the fair, visitors can find a little bit of everything from photography, arts and crafts exhibits, to preserves and cake decorating. These exhibits can be viewed after judging concludes shortly
after 12:30 p.m.
The public also can participate in the
various 4-H clubs’ fun interactive and educational activities and games on the lawn area close to the dog show.
A barbecue lunch will be available for purchase and Jay’s Specialty Ice Cream truck also will be on site.

The second annual Reed- ley College Tiger Pageant will
take place at 6 p.m. Friday, May 3, in the college cafeteria. The non-gendered pageant style talent show has 12 con-
testants participating in four traditional elements — panel interview, talent, formal wear and final questions.
Prizes to be awarded in- clude crowns, trophies, sash- es, school technology (person- al tablets), backpacks and oth- er school supplies. Prizes have been donated by the college’s Safe Space Club according to
Deb Borofka, faculty adviser for the club.
“We are very excited to share this event with the Reedley community, and look forward to filling up the audience on the night of the event,” she said.

Elsie “Alma” Johnston was
born in Merced, California February
11, 1909 and passed away April 27, 2019 at the age of 110. She was a long time resident of Reedley. Alma’s biggest pleasures in life were family and friends. She was also a gifted seamstress as well as an avid Bingo player. She was an amazing role model for all who knew her and openly shared her secrets of longevity with us.
Alma was preceded in death by her husband Victor Johnston and daughter Donna Babcock. She is survived by her granddaughter Darla Anton and her husband Michael, as well as great grandchildren Donna Schiefer and Ryan Anton and their spouses, and three great-great Grandsons.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 2, 2019 in the Reedley Cemetery Memorial Service Building. Remembrances can be made to Nazareth House, 2121 N. First St., Fresno, CA 93703.

Trees planted
April 24 at
Reedley College
Volunteers planted about 50 trees at Reedley College during
a tree planting event on April 24. The saplings were planted at locations around the campus including a number of remote spots on the north end of campus. The trees were part of a Tree Fresno grant that has planted about 1,000 trees in the Reedley area this year.
