Emperors

34-21 lead. Dinuba outscored the Tribe 13-5 in the third quarter, with Tulare’s points coming from the foul line. The lead may have been extended further, but a half-court shot at the buzzer by Carrion bounced twice off the front of the rim and out.
Carrion then hit two technical foul free throws to open the fourth quarter to give Dinua their largest lead of the game at 45-26. With five minutes left in the game Dinuba displayed their best offensive possession of the game with great ball movement that led to another 3-pointer by Rodriguez.
Tulare made a small run towards the end of the game and cut Dinuba’s lead to as few as seven. But the run was too little and too late, with Magaña closing the game out by hitting two free throws to give the Emperors the win.
“Our depth is definitely our strength,” said Schofield. “With some more time, I really think this is going to be a great team.”
Rodriguez led the Emperors in scoring with 14 points. He also had six rebounds and three blocked shots. Magaña finished with 10 points and seven rebounds and Carrion had eight points.
Dinuba’s record went to 2-0 on Monday after traveling to Corcoran on Monday and handling the Panthers with a 75-50 win.
On Wednesday Dinuba will host the Andrew Bedoya Holiday Classic.
JV Basketball
The Dinuba Emperors JV basketball team also won their opening game against Tulare Union. In convincing fashion, the JV Emperors rolled to a 72-31 victory over the Tribe to also start their season 1-0.
Last year’s JV basketball team finished 17-3, going 5-1 in league under coach Tim Rico. This years team is coached by Edward Bedoya, who was the varsity coach for the last three years.
