sure he has at his meal for the day.
“He never asks for anything,” said Kaur. “But if he walks by two or three times, internally I know he’s hungry.”
Kaur said her interaction with Jesse made her realize that there is a need in the community.
“Nobody knows the real reasons,” she stressed. “I don’t want to be homeless. Nobody wants to be homeless, but for different reasons, for different things and for different choices... But it’s ok. For whatever reason they can’t go with their families and have turkey. At least I can give them a turkey sandwich.”
Now Kaur makes an effort to gather friends and family every year to share turkey sandwiches, clothes and socks. She says empathy is the driving force behind her Friendsgiving.
“We don’t know the reasons, but inside it makes me sad,” Kaur explained.
As for Jesse, he was the first one to receive his turkey sandwich last Tuesday, as well as a “special bag” Kaur prepared for him to help him through the holidays.
On Dec. 15 Kaur will be hosting a scavenger hunt in the parking lot of Rabo Bank, as well as free photos with Santa Claus.

When Kulwinderjit Kaur first saw Jesse, a homeless Dinuba man, pushing his shopping cart in the downtown district, her heart was moved to take action. Last week, that action took the form of her second annual “Friendsgiving”, where she, family and other members of the community offered food and clothing to the homeless and anyone in need.
Kaur has owned and operated Kaur’s Eyebrow Threading on East Tulare Street in downtown Dinuba for the past six years. A few years ago she noticed Jesse walk by her shop.
“I saw Jesse and I asked my friends and neighbors, ‘Who is this guy?’” said Kaur of how she came up with the idea for Friendsgiving. “I would see him every day, and people would tell me different stories. I said let me start with this guy.”
In 2015 she started offering food to Jesse on a monthly basis. She would also bring him close.
One time Kaur even told Jesse that she would bring him whatever food he wanted. His request was McDonalds and so Kaur brought him McDonalds.
She said that over the years she has grown attached to Jesse and makes it a priority to make

Kulwinderjit Kaur (left-center) was joined by friends, family and community activists for her second annual "Friendsgiving" on Nov. 20. After encountering a homeless man near her place of business years ago, Kaur has taken it upon herself to ensure he and other people in need are fed and clothed. During her Friendsgiving, she invites the homeless to have a turkey sandwich meal and sends them off with clothing and a free pair of new socks.
