• The ‘Friends of the Dinuba Library’ organization is raising money to be able to donate more books to our Dinuba Library by holding a drawing for a four foot, lighted, decorated Christmas tree which has at its base seasonal books, a stuffed Elf Shelf Sitter and a Santa Countdown Calendar. Our theme this year is ‘Toyland.’ All materials have been donated.
Tickets for a chance to win are $1 each or 6 tickets for $5. They can be purchased at the library or from one of the ‘Friends’ Board Members: Joan Truitt, Winona Campbell, Susan Abair, Angie Garcia, Rita Garcia, Carol Meinert, Shirley Stormont, Rosie Cabrera or Mae Ewert, now, through November 30th.
The drawing will be held on Friday, November 30th at 5 p.m. at the Dinuba Library. There is no need to be present to win. For more information, please call the Dinuba Library at
591-5829.

Community Commissions

of their term, which ends Dec.
31A. ccording to the report, given by Dinuba City Clerk Linda Barkley, there were two vacancies on the Public Safety Commission, after the city council reappointed commissioners Pablo Contreras and Raymond Millard. After their appointments commissioner Sandy Rangel also applied for reappointment, leaving just one vacancy on the commission.
The Public Safety Commission also incorporates what used to be the old Police Advisory Commission.
Another commission that may be operating short for next year is the Economic Development Commission. The commission once consisted of nine members. However, due to the struggle of filling board seats the commission was reduced to just five members. That being said, Barkley said she has received verification that commissioners Trini Rodriguez and Art Pena have both confirmed they will be applying for reappointments. If commissioner Maria McElroy reapplies the board will still be two members shy of a full board.
Barkley said there is a possibility that Rangel, from the Public Safety Commission, may join the EDC.
“We have always had a challenge filling seats on some of these commissions,” said Barkely. “I don’t know what it is. We’ve used different forms to reach out to the community, but recently it’s been difficult.”
According to Barkley, there is no deadline to apply for the commission and they are always taking applications. Applications can be obtained at Dinuba City Hall.
