Boys basketball team returns two of their top scorers from last season
Dinuba will have consecutive home games beginning with Madera tonight and Tulare Western on Tuesday.
Also returning for Dinuba are senior guard Sebastian Garza, senior forward Johnathan Calderon and senior center Sinuhe Vargas, according to Schofield.
Magana and Calderon were members of the Emperors football team, who finished their season two weeks ago.
“They’ll get into basketball shape,” Schofield said.
Schofield said that Calderon had a great summer and expects Vargas to contribute in all facets of the game.
“He does a lot of little things for us,” Schofield said of Vargas.
Coming up from the junior varsity squad are brothers Isaak and Elias Flores, both will be playing at the guard position and are expected to make an immediate contribution.
Schofield feels confident that the team will have success if they can avoid injuries.
“If we stay healthy then we should make a deep run,” he said.
The Emperors’ first major tournament of will be on Dec. 5-8, when they participate in the Kingsburg Tourney before hosting the Andrew Bedoya Holiday Classic from Dec. 12-15.

Entering the match, Quevedo said not having forwards is like baseball without a pitcher and a catcher.
“Hopefully, someone will step up,” he said.
The Cardinals, who captured consecutive league crowns, finished the 2017-18 campaign with a 20-9 overall record and 8-0-2 in league.
Orosi made it to the postseason winning their opening match before falling to Lindsay in the semifinals.
Senior Luis Corona returns as a midfielder and Antonio Lupian along with David Pina are also midfielders and strikers, said Quevedo.
Senior Diego Hernandez returns at goalkeeper.
“Midfielders are our strength,” he added. “Defensively will be good.”
Against the Buccaneers, Orosi got on the board first on a nice assist from D. Pina to Rafael Saldivar. Moments later, Corona made good on a free kick for a 2-0 lead.
The Cardinals added another goal by Eliseo Pena in the second half.
Orosi opened the season last week against Woodlake and the end result was a scoreless tie.
The Cardinals’ next match is tomorrow night at Mendota.

Orosi High boys soccer coach Jose Quevedo might have some concerns about the teams forward position.
The Cardinals are trying to fill the void from a year ago when Quevedo relied on a pair of seniors.
Cause for concern, certainly.
“We don’t have a forward, yet,” Quevedo said.
During Orosi’s 3-1 win over visiting Avenal Monday night, the Cardinals looked good controlling the match from the opening whistle.

Entering her final year of wrestling, Dinuba High senior Autumn Rangel has set her sights on qualifying for the State Championships.
Rangel got off to a quick start this past weekend capturing the 131-pound division at the Ranger Shootout held at Redwood High in Visalia.
“I knew I was going to do good. I felt really ready,” said Rangel. “A few years back in my first tournament, I felt like I wasn’t ready but coach [Michael] Wright really pushed me and prepared me for this tournament.”
Moving on up
Long and junior Noah Cortez along with senior Lorenzo Arreola, according to Wright.
Long finished sixth at 160 pounds at the CIF State Championships while Cortez was 8th at 145.
Also returning are masters qualifier Javier Castro and Wright is excited to have freshman Javier Martinez on the team.
“We are pretty high on Javier at 220,” Wright said.
On Saturday the team will be participating in the Lemoore Duals but will be short handed.
“We won’t have a full line up for Saturday because we’re missing those guys but we’re going to do the best we can and the kids we do have will be ready.”
As a junior, Daniel Long had a tremendous season placing sixth overall at the CIF State Wrestling Championships in Bakersfield. Long will lead the Emperors wrestling team that moved up to Division 1. Dinuba opens the season on Saturday at the Lemoore Duals.

After a successful season a year ago, the Dinuba High boys basketball team appear to be ready to continue their winning ways.
Last year, the Emperors had a 20-win season and were 6-4 in the Central Sequoia League. Dinuba has a good returning combination of returners and newcomers to make some noise.
“We have two of our top scorers returning,” Schofield said.
Senior forward Luke Rodriguez, who averaged nearly 11 points a game, and junior scoring guard Josh Magana will lead Dinuba. In a Central Section Division III playoff game last season, Magana poured in 31 points in a 83-81 overtime win over Delano.
The Emperors opened the season this past Tuesday night at Corcoran. Results of the game were unavailable at press time.
two opponents with first period pins, according to Wright.
Although, it is an impressive start, Wright says there are a few things to work on.
“She pinned them quick and did well but I would like for her to work on getting experience from other angles,” Wright said. “She’s been wrestling for us for a long time. We have nothing but high expectations for her. We’d like to see her go to state and get on the podium.”

After successful runs in Division II, the Dinuba High wrestling team will now compete in Division 1 and that suits coach Michael Wright just fine.
Despite not having a few returners join the squad after football, Wright remains upbeat for the upcoming season.
“We’re the only sport in the school to be in Division 1,” Wright said. “We’ll be up with the Clovis schools.”
Wright said that team will have key returners that are coming off strong seasons last year.
The Emperors will be lead by state qualifiers senior Daniel
