Staff Report
The Reedley Police Department will host its 20th annual department inspection and awards ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
The event is not open to the general public.
The department holds the ceremony each fall to allow the men and women to receive rec- ognition for their duty. Several officers will be recognized for their outstanding achievements throughout the year, and employees of the year will be announced for various departments.
Chief Joe Garza said that the inspection and awards ceremony of one of the only oppor- tunities during the year for all Reedley Police Department employees to gather together in dress uniform in one location.
In 2017, officer Eric Curry was honored as the department’s Sworn Employee of the Year. Mireya Renteria, records specialist, was recog- nized as Professional of the Year while Victor Perez was named Police Explorer of the Year.
Employees and their families will be served breakfast after the ceremony.

The Friends of the Li- brary meets monthly, and has been organizing efforts to raise funds for a new library facility. The group is in the process of purchasing land to eventually be used for the site of a new library — one
more than three times the size of the present library.
There will be refresh- ments served, and activities
include crafts, stories and games for children.
