Eagles boys hoops wins consolation title

The Immanuel High Ea- gles boys basketball team is 6-5 overall after winning the consolation championship at the Holiday Invitational Tour- nament (H.I.T) played Dec. 13 to 16.
The Eagles went 3-1 in the tournament at Hoover High School in Fresno and defeated the Roosevelt High Rough Riders 64-54 on Dec. 16 to secure the consolation title.
The Eagles lost an opening round game to Clovis High on Dec. 13, then defeated Chavez High from Delano and East Bakersfield to advance to play Roosevelt High.
“I think our team started out slow the first night against Clovis but had a great win our second night against Chavez,” said Chris Woods, Immanuel High Eagles head coach. “In the Chavez game we had everyone on the roster score, and it was a great confidence booster. It carried over into our next two wins against East Bakersfield and Roosevelt.”
On Dec. 13, Immanuel
opened play in the tourna- ment with a 90-74 loss to the Clovis High Cougars.
Nate Kendricks had 39 points, and Shawn Rodg- ers had nine. Winston Wil- liams had eight points and 12 rebounds.
On Dec. 14, four Eagles scored in double figures in a 107-43 romp over Chavez High School from Delano.
Kendricks led Imman- uel with 34 points and sev- en rebounds, while Mitch Nydam had 20 points and 12 rebounds. Williams had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Gavin Lloyd had 12 points.
On Dec. 15, Immanuel edged East Bakersfield 68-66 to advance to the consolation bracket championship.
Kendricks had 32 points, while Nydam had nine points. The Eagles defeated Roo- sevelt High School 64-54 to earn the consolation champi-
onship.

The Immanuel High Ea- gles girls soccer team is off to a 3-3-1 start following 1-3 in the McLane Holiday Clas- sic Dec. 15 and 16 in Fresno.
The Eagles were coming off a 1-1 tie against Kerman High School on Dec. 12 in Ker- man.
On Dec. 15, Immanuel lost to McLane High School 4-0. They then defeated Dos Palos

Reedley High and South High tied 1-1 in an opening round game at the Cougar Classic on Dec. 15 at Clovis High School.
The Pirates went 0-1-2 in the tournament.

Pirates go 1-3 in Dinuba Tournament, 5-5 overall
Dec. 13 to Dec. 16 at Dinuba and Reedley high schools, Ferrell said he is happy with how the team has played .
“We had some very good moments. Learning how to play against higher level competition is the big jump that we are looking to make this year,” Ferrell said. “I am very proud of our team and
how they have competed.” Reedley played their first
three games of the tourna- ment at Reedley High, then played their final game on Dec. 16 at Dinuba High.
On Dec. 13, the Pirates opened the tournament with a 62-41 loss to Central Valley Christian High School from Visalia. No statistics were available for the game.

Coming off a 5-0 victory over the Kings- burg High School Vikings on Dec. 12, the Reed- ley High School Pirates boys soccer team com- peted in the Cougar Classic.
The tournament was held on Dec. 15 and 16 at Clovis High School in Clovis.
As of Dec. 18, the Pirates are 2-3-3 overall.
Reedley High opened the tournament with a 1-1 tie with South High School from Bakersfield.
Emmanuel Ibarra scored the goal for the Pirates.
The Pirates then played Sunnyside High School in the second game of the day on Dec. 15. On Dec. 16, the Pirates to Clovis West High School.
No statistics were available for either game.
Reedley High played Bullard High School on Dec. 19. No score was available at press- time.
They then will play the Buchanan High School on Thursday, Dec. 28, in Clovis.
The Pirates play Orange Cove High School on Wedensday, Jan. 3, at Sal Gonzalez Field.
RHS Girls Soccer
The Reedley High School girls soccer team played Buchanan High School on Dec. 20 in Clovis. No score was available at presstime.

As of Dec. 19, Reedley High was 7-4-2 .
The Pirates will play the Fowler High School Redcats on Thursday, Dec. 28, at Sal Gonzalez Field.
They then will play Monache High School on Wednseday, Jan. 3 in Porterville.
The Pirates open defense of their North Yo- semite League Championship on Wednesday, Jan. 10, against Sunnyside High School at Sal Gonzalez Field.
Reedley High won the 2016 NYL title with a 9-1 record.
