Helen Cosgrave passed away peacefully on October 11, 2021 in Saugus, CA after a life well lived. She
died of congestive heart failure at age 88.
Helen was born in Calgary, Canada on April 30, 1933 to John and Jennie Sikora. Both of her parents immigrated to Canada in the mid 1920s—her father from Czechoslovakia, her mother from Poland. Helen was the youngest of three children.
As a child, much of her working-class family’s social life revolved around gatherings at the local Polish Hall. Her parents spoke Polish at home and Helen was bilingual from an early age. Helen graduated from high school in 1952 and worked office jobs for a few years before attending two local technical colleges, earning certificates in dressmaking and secretarial skills in the late 1950s. During her 20s she served as a bridesmaid in ten weddings.
In 1960 Helen and a girlfriend moved from Calgary to San Francisco in search of adventure and a warmer climate. Helen found work in the accounting department at Libby’s Canned Foods headquarters on Fisherman’s Wharf, where she met Richard Cosgrave. He asked her to participate in the company bowling league for their first date. The two married in Sanger in June of 1963. The newlyweds made their first home in Marin County, and daughter Carol and son Theron soon joined the family.
After several years living in Marin and later in Sunnyvale, Helen and Richard left the Bay Area in 1970 to operate the family farm in Sanger. Even though she had lived all of her life in a city, Helen adapted quickly to the farming life. She was a regular volunteer at her kids’ schools and at the Sanger First Presbyterian Church, where the family worshipped for over 45 years. Throughout the 1980s-90s, Helen led the church’s “Manna” cooking group, which provided catering services to receptions and special events. In 1990 she helped author a cookbook to commemorate the church’s 100th anniversary. After their children were grown, Helen and Richard enjoyed traveling with their trailer. Some of their favorite days together were spent fishing for trout on the shores of local lakes.
Helen was loyal, generous, and creative. Friends and family were frequent recipients of her crafts (she loved knitting, ceramics, quilting) and culinary delights (she could cook and bake anything, for any size group). She made over 200 quilts during her 40 years of quilting, which she continued to enjoy through her final years. She was especially fond of spoiling her grandchildren.
Helen was a kind woman of quiet strength who faithfully served and prayed for her family all of her life. She was immensely proud of her family, which had recently expanded to include two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Richard and sister Isabel and is survived by daughter Carol (and Rich) Scholl of Saugus, son Theron (and Jill) Cosgrave of Davis, CA, grandchildren Matthew (and Irene) Scholl, Amanda (and Chris) Davis and Gavin and Travis Cosgrave, two great- grandchildren, and brother Louis (and Joan) Sikora of Calgary.

July 17, 1953 ~ October 7, 2021
Robert Leon Wiebe, loving
husband, father, and papa, passed
away on October 7, 2021, surrounded by his family.
A third-generation resident of Fresno County, Robert was the founding partner of Wiebe Hinton Hambalek, LLP, originally formed in 2003 as Wiebe and Associates. Robert’s career in accounting began decades earlier with a three-year stint at the Internal Revenue Service before he moved on to a prominent Fresno firm.
Over the course of his career he developed indispensable industry experience in real estate and agriculture, and was a highly sought- after consultant on many key real estate developments throughout the valley and California. Robert also managed harvest and day-to- day operations at the family farmstead in Reedley, first owned by his grandfather.
Robert was active in many community organizations, including the Fresno County Economic Development Corporation, the Fresno Historical Society, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and Fresno Survivors of Suicide Loss.
Robert loved spending time with his grandsons on the family ranch, driving them through persimmon groves on his father’s 1940s-era Ford tractor. An avid baseball fan, he closely followed the San Francisco Giants.
Robert is survived by his wife Therese and his children, Sarah Theresa and Christopher Robert; his sisters Bertha Kubeck, Darlene Helms, and Beverly Buckley; and grandchildren Jaden Louis and Diego Christopher, as well as Esmeralda Leona, due in April 2022.
