The Reedley High boys basketball team opens its home season by hosting the annual Reedley Tip-Off Clas- sic starting Thursday, Nov. 21 through Satur- day, Nov. 23 at the RHS gym on campus.
The Pirates – who posted a lopsided 77- 37 win at Orange Cove High in their season opener on Nov. 15 — take on the Orosi Cardi- nals in a 7:30 p.m. start in the feature game on Nov. 21. Earlier first round games pit Si- erra vs. Orange Cove (3 p.m.), Yosemite vs. Fowler (4:30 p.m.) and Lindsay vs. Liberty (6 p.m.)
Friday’s games are at 3 and 4:30 p.m. for consolation bracket; 6 and 7:30 p.m. for semi- finals, Saturday’s action begins at 12:30 p.m. and concludes with the tour- ney championship game at 5 p.m.
Reedley High’s boys have a new coach this year in Chris Freeman, who succeeds Tra- vis Ferrell who took a teaching job with the Sanger Unified School District. The Pirates
host a 7 p.m. non-league contest on Tuesday, Nov. 26 against Yosemite, then will play at Lind- say High on Saturday, Nov. 30.
Reedley will partici- pate in two other non- league tournaments: Si- erra Pacific (Dec. 4-7) and Liberty-Madera Ranchos (Dec. 12-14). The Pirates also will play Selma High in the Sanger Showcase on Saturday, Jan. 4.

Reedley High’s girls survived a furious fourth quarter come- back against Orange Cove in its season open- er on Nov. 15, hanging on for a 52-51 victory at the Titans gym. The hosts went on a 19-9 run in the final eight minutes but came up a point short.
Sophomore Miah Paz paced the Pirates with 20 points, five steals and a block. Senior Madison Haney had 13 points, 10 rebounds and five steals.
Reedley opened the home season on Nov. 20 against Foothill High from Bakersfield, then hosts Kingsburg High in a 4 p.m. start on Tues- day, Nov. 26.

Lady Pirates capture another tennis league title

Reedley High’s girls ten- nis team captured another North Yosemite League team championship on Oct. 25 at Roosevelt High in Fresno.
The Pirates posted a per- fect 10-0 record in league dual matches.

The Blue Raiders took command on their first series of the third quarter, with the help of a fluke play. The Blue Raiders in- tercepted a Davila pass on the ensuing posses- sion, and cashed in on Staley’s 5-yard run to make it 28-0.
Immanuel responded with its lone offensive highlight, as Tiger broke through the right side for a 50-yard touchdown run with 1:21 left in the quarter. But the hosts put it away with another ball control drive, finished by a 12-yard touchdown run by Andrew Gonzalez. Staley capped off his big night with a 13-yard run off a direct snap to score in the final two-and-a- half minutes of play.
While losing key se- niors in Tiger and receiv- er Trace Pires, the Ea- gles have a solid nucleus returning next year led by quarterback Davila, Williams and Kawagoe.

After winning five of six games over the weekend, including four straight on Sunday, Nov. 17, the Orange Cove 12 and Under Knights claimed the championship at the Queen of the Diamond tournament held in Reedley.

Matthew Jarrett - Reedley High Track & Field
Senior Matthew Jarrett captured the North Yosemite League varsity boys championship on Nov. 15, turning in a season-best time of 16 minutes, 49.69 seconds over the 5,000 meter course at Woodward Park in Fresno. Jarrett will lead the Pirates, who nished second in the league team standings, into this week’s Central Section Division 2 race in Fresno.

Dinuba Cross Country Team
DINUBA HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD
The Dinuba High girls cross country team is this week's Athlete of the Week after capturing their third consecutive Central Sequoia League title on Nov. 12. Dinuba had six runners in the top-12 and nished ahead of Hanford West in the team standings, 34-51.

Dinuba High senior wrestler, Noah Cortez, signed his Na- tional Letter of Intent with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo at the Dinuba High gym on Nov. 20. Cortez wrestles at 157 pounds for the Emperors and he also is a member of the DHS baseball team.
