ELISEO Continued from page A1 According to a report from the California Highway Patrol, a man — now identified as Daniel Lemus, 21, of Reedley — was traveling westbound on South Avenue when he failed to make the required stop at the Alta Avenue and South Av- enue intersection. Lemus’ vehicle then collided with a vehicle heading north on Alta Avenue. The vehicle heading north on Alta was the one the child was riding in. The driver of that vehicle, Alex Contreras, and his passenger, Anna Saldana, suffered minor injuries in the crash. The report also stated that all involved parties in the accident were wearing their seat belts. Fernando Saldana said the sud- den loss of Eliseo comes as a shock to his family and friends. “Every morning before school, he’d wake up, change and get ready to go to school,” Fernando said through tears. “He would tell me 'turn on your car so I can re- cord it,' and every time he would record it, he would laugh, and would take the video, and that would be every day for school.” He said Eliseo, or “Nuno” as he was sometimes called by fam- ily, loved cars, trucks, and video games. “As you can see, he was into cars, trucks,” said Fernando point- ing to the number of customized cars at the vigil. “All my friends are here. I’d take him with me to go hang out with them. We’d go to car meets and spend time with everyone.” Fernando also wanted to thank those who showed up to the vigil to show their support. “I didn’t know what to ex- pect, but as you can see,” he said. “There’s much love in this town, in this small town.” He also emphasized the impor- tance of placing a stop sign at the Alta and South intersection. “It's a busy street and either way, there should be a stop sign for both \[directions\],” he said. “There’s been multiple car accidents here and I wouldn’t want anyone else going through what we are going through.” Lemus had two prior convic- tions for driving without a driv- er's license. He was arrested on scene for the same offense, not driving with a license and has also been charged with vehicular man- slaughter with gross negligence. No matter the outcome of the case, Fernando said it will not bring his little brother back. “Tell your family you love them every day,” he said. “Because you never know when is the last day you’re going to see them.” An officer from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad looks on as the unit’s robot retrieves a package found underneath a silver Jaguar on Oct. 7. The package was dis- covered by the owner of the vehicle, who then called police. Police, assisted by deputies with the Tu- lare County Sheriff's Department, arrested Jose Manuel Lopez on Oct. 4 in the 4200 block of Road 100 just out- side of the city. The fa- tal shooting of Antonio Lopez occurred Aug. 6 near the intersection of East Yale Avenue and O Street. Antonio Lopez died at the scene despite lifesaving efforts by Di- nuba fire personnel. Jose Lopez was booked into the Tulare County Jail on a count of murder. Police said the in- vestigation is continuing. Anyone with infor- mation is urged to call Dinuba Police Det. Bal- do De Haro at (559) 591- 5914, ext. 210. Rick Curiel / Mid Valley Times PACKAGE Continued from page A1 An investigation later revealed that the pack- age was magnetically af- fixed, requiring the bomb squad robot to make two attempts to remove it. “It was definitely sus- picious,” said Trevino of the package. Once removed, the unit was x-rayed for analysis. After discover- ing the package to pose no immediate threat, the unit was taken apart on site. Cut upon, the small package revealed a small black box with some sort of wiring. According to Trevi- no, the package ended up being a GPS tracker. Trevino said the husband of the vehicle’s owner denied it was his. The case is pending further investigation. 1 Lb. 06596
