Despite building a 21-6 lead over the Caveliers, Dinuba could not hold on to the lead and ended up losing the game to CVC by one point, 35-34. The Emperors will continue league play with a tough matchup against league rival Selma (5-1) tomorrow night. EMPERORS Continued from B1 for 2-yard loss by Evan Garza. With 2nd and goal from the 18 yard line, Griswold went back for a pass and was forced to scramble as he couldn't find an open receiver. Di- nuba’s Ethan Espinosa managed to knock the ball free from Griswold and teammate Javier Martinez re- covered the fumble. The Emperors could not turn the Cavs mistake into points as they punted the ball to CVC’s 31 yard line. One the next play, Gris- wold connected on a 69-yard pass play to Rening and a successful 2-point play made score 35-34. Dinuba started the game very strong as Magaña scored on a short TD run and followed up with a 41-yard long pass play to Brian Campbell for a 14-0 lead. Rening then got into the scoring act as the senior scampered 58-yards for a score with 1:40 remaining. The Emperors continued to do damage in the air in the second quarter as Magaña connected on a 30-yard score to Campbell, who made a tremendous diving catch to increase the lead to 21-6. CVC was quick to answer on a short run by Rening and a 2-point conversion by Griswold, cutting the lead to 21-14. The Cavaliers went back to work on offense as Griswold found Lo- gan Jacobi open in the secondary for 50-yard score with 2:04 remain- ing in the half. Offensively for the Emperors, Magaña was 16 of 28 for 230 yards and three touchdowns. Magaña spread the ball around as nine dif- ferent players caught a pass led by Campbell who had three catches for 88 yards and two TD’s while Ramos ended with two receptions for 50 yards. Dinuba’s ground at- tack was led by Mendoza, who had 123 yards on 23 carries. Espinosa had five solo tackles and assisted on four others while teammate Dario Sanchez finished with seven total tackles. The Emperors will host rival Selma tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. The Bears enter the game with a 5-1 record. “Selma brings a different mon- ster because they run a lot of mo- tion and misdirections.
