It was worth the wait.
Except for scrimmages, Reedley College hadn’t met the College of the Sequoias on the football field since 2013.
On the afternoon of Nov. 6 in Visalia, the Tigers won a thriller over the Giants 42-35 on the COS campus field. The victory clinches a bowl berth for the Tigers — although a game is not certain since two conference foes (Modesto and Fresno City) are ahead of the Tigers in the standings.
The regular season finale is a big one — the Battle for the Pump, the State Central Community College District matchup between the Tigers and the Fresno City College Rams. The matchup is set for
3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, in the Reedley High School Stadium. Fresno City, ranked fifth in the state by the JC Athletic Bureau, is closing in on clinch- ing a berth in the Nor Cal Re- gionals, probably against City
College of San Francisco. Last week, the 6-3 Tigers
held off Sequoias twice in or near the end zone in the final six minutes.
“It was a great game,” said Reedley Tiger head coach Rob Hartenfels.
The Tigers build a 14-point lead in the third quarter. Quar- terbacks Josh Magana and
Jordan Solomon combined for four touchdown passes and 304 passing yards. Reedley’s final touchdown came on a 22-yard run by Tamicus Napi- er. On the game's second play, Magana found Shamir Kirk for a 90-yard score. Jaylin Jackson caught a pair of scor-
ing passes, one from Magana and one from Solomon, from 4 and 30 yards out.
Sequoias stayed in the game after Brendan Feeney recov- ered a blocked punt for a touch- down in the third quarter. The loss dropped COS to 1-2 in con- ference play and 3-4 overall.
