would send Immanuel to Fresno''s Selland Arena at 4 p.m. Satur- day, Feb. 23, against the winner of the Feb. 20 semifinal between No. 8 Chavez and No. 4 Dinuba. "My shots weren't falling, but deep down inside we know what we could do," said Rodriguez, who hit consecutive three-point baskets to cut the deficit to 62-61 with less than two minutes to play. "So our shots started falling, and we knew we could come back."
After a miss by Tulare Western, guard Landon Yamada drained a three-pointer from the wing 1:30 to play to give Immanuel its first lead since the opening quarter. Rodri- guez drained two free throws – on a night when the Eagles struggled to hit half of their foul shots — to build the lead to three.
The Mustangs cut the deficit to 65-64 on a runner in the lane by sophomore guard Mikev Ficher, who led all scorers with 30 points. After Winston Williams missed two free throws, the visitors had a chance to win with 6.5 seconds left. But Rodriguez and Yamada trapped Ficher near the sideline and forced him to step out of bounds with just more than four seconds left. Wil- liams sank one of two foul shots with 2.9 seconds left, and a despera- tion heave was off target.
Rodriguez and Yamada finished with 18 and 14 points, respectively, while Williams had 11 points and Kaleb Daglish 10 points.
"I'm really proud of our guys, and have realized with them this year they are never out of a game," said Chris Woods, IHS coach.
