Teachers and staff with Kings Canyon High School east of Reedley stood in front of a new mural painted by Jose Elias, an artist and art instructor at West Hills College in Coalinga. Randy Bessey, program administrator at the school in the Kings Canyon Unified School District, said the mural is part of a new eating area for students on campus. He said the mural — featuring images of foothills and farmland surrounding the high school — depicts what he called a clear message of hope and overcoming adversity. Included on the mural is the quote, "Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations." Students returned to campus for on-site instruction on Tuesday, March 2; nearly a year after COVID-19 forced schools to go to distance learning.
