It was just before midnight on Dec. 21 when police were called to a home in the 2600 block of Mary Avenue in Sanger for a re- ported domestic disturbance.
According to information from the Sanger Police Depart- ment, when officers arrived they conducted an investigation and arrested Ontiveros for felony do- mestic violence.
Ontiveros was booked into the Fresno County jail during the overnight hours, and was released from custody at 12:47 p.m. on Dec. 22. According to the Fresno County Jail booking logs, Ontiveros was facing one felony charge of felony "inflict corporal injury on spouse/cohabitant." His bail had been set at $25,000.
When asked about the arrest by television reporters outside the county jail upon his release, Ontiveros said he was not guilty of the charge against him and said they will “get to the bottom of this.”

Maribel Lara
Maribel Lara of San Antonio, Texas died Dec. 19 in Fresno. She was 45.
Ms. Lara, originally from Dinuba, worked as a flight nurse for the United States Air Force.
She is survived by her parents, Abel and Raquel Lara, three brothers and two sis- ters.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thurs- day, Jan. 6, at Dopkins Dinuba Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Fri- day, Jan. 7, followed by a graveside service at Smith Mountain Cem- etery in Dinuba.

driguez of Cutler died Dec. 22 in Visalia. He was 97.
Mr. Rodriguez worked as a farm la- borer.
He is survived by three daughters, 18 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Ontiveros had been a sitting member of the Sanger City Coun- cil when he challenged incumbent
mayor Frankie Gonzalez in 2020. He won the office by receiving nearly 54 percent of the vote.
As of the Tuesday, Dec. 28 update, there were 148,826 total cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID- 19) out of 2,080,507 tests in Fresno County, with 2,364 deaths and 163 people hospitalized (41 in ICU).
Del Rey increased to 426 cases (1,287 in region) while the Fowler region had 1,726 cases (1,500 in the city) and 29 deaths through Dec. 28. Squaw Valley (218 cases), Dunlap and Miramonte had a total case number of 590.
Among Mid Valley Times cities in the county through Dec. 28, the Reedley region continues with the most total overall positive cases with 9,744 (5,000 in the city proper) and 89 deaths in data on the Fresno County Department of Public Health website.
In Tulare County, there was a total of 71,490 confirmed cases (857 active, a decrease of 39 for the week) of COVID-19 with 1,137 deaths and 46 people hospitalized (nine in ICU) as of Tuesday, Dec. 28. Breakdowns by cities/regions show 6,009 total cases in Dinuba, 2,001 in Orosi, 1,020 in Cutler, 375 in Traver, 126 in the rural area south of Reedley and 41 in the area southeast of Orange Cove.
Through the Dec. 28 update, Sanger (including immediate surrounding rural areas) showed 9,556 cases (6,400 in the city) and 84 deaths; Parlier was at 3,500 cases (3,815 region) with 49 deaths and Orange Cove had 2,200 (3,694 regional) cases and 20 deaths.
A total of 69,487 people (97.2 percent) in Tulare County were listed as recovered as of Tuesday, Dec. 28.

Erasmo Lucero
Romero of Dinuba died Nov. 23 in Hanford. He was 47.
Mr. Romero worked as a diesel mechanic.
He is survived by his wife, Maria De Jesus Romero; one son, two daughters, four broth- ers, two sisters and one grandchild.
A mass was held Dec. 18 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Di- nuba. Burial followed at Smith Mountain Ceme- tery in Dinuba.
