Dinuba High's boys were the highest-seeded Mid Valley Times region basketball team for the Central Section basket- ball playoffs, which tipped off this week.
The Central Sequoia League champion Emper- ors (26-3 overall) drew the No. 2 seed in Division II, and opened with a 58-48 win over West Bakersfield on Feb. 15, That set up a 6:30 p.m. quar- terfinal matchup Thursday, Feb. 17, at Washington Inter- mediate School against No. 7 Sanger, a 76-57 victor over No. 10 Sunnyside on Feb. 15.
Dinuba closed out an 11- 1 CSL championship run last week with a 73-32 drubbing of Exeter in Dinuba on Feb. 9. Three players scored in double figures, led by Jesus Lara with 15 points and five rebounds.

in the girls playoff field, Di- nuba (Division III) and Reed- ley (Division V) drew opening round home games on Feb. 16. The CSL co-champion Lady Emps (18-8, 10-2) were seeded seventh and hosted No. 10 Ker- man while the Pirates (8-14, 2-5 North Yosemite) hosted No. 14 seed and fellow Reedley School Immanuel High. A win would give the Pirates a second home game on Friday, Feb. 18.
Sanger High's girls (18- 9) finished second in CMAC play at 7-3, and drew the 10th seed in a tough Division II field which meant an opening round road game in Fresno against Roosevelt High. Pirates rally past Emps in new park debut
Reedley High centerfielder Ryan Warkentin broke toward his left to pursue a fly ball in the second inning of the Pirates' season opening game against Dinuba High on Feb. 11 at Reed- ley High. It was the first official ballgame in the school's newly remodeled baseball stadium. Construction in the last year included a new concrete grandstand featuring bench seating, bleachers and press box. In addition, the facili- ty features new dugouts and a new concession area. The Pirates jumped out to an early lead, gave up four runs in the third inning to the Emperors and then rallied to tie the game after three innings. Reedley broke it open in the late innings for a 12-5 victory. The Pirates return to non-league action on Thursday, Feb. 17, with a 6:30 p.m. varsity game against Hanford West .
