IHS, RHS sports to hold scrimmages

The Reedley High Pirates girls golf team will open their season on Thursday, Aug. 9, against Sierra Pacific High School of Hanford. The Pirates are looking for a sixth straight North Yosemite League Championship in 2018.

The start of a new school year also marks the beginning of the athletic season. For the Immanuel High School and Reedley High School fall ath- letic teams, the first week of school is the final chance to prepare with scrimmages.
Here is a look at some of the scrimmages that will take place for both schools.
Football
The Immanuel High Ea- gles football team will host Orange Cove High School on Saturday, Aug. 11, in a scrim- mage at the Immanuel High School Sports Complex.
The Reedley High Pirates will travel to Hanford on Fri- day, Aug. 10, to scrimmage Hanford West High School.
A full report on the Eagles and Pirates football teams will be published in a spe- cial tab in The Exponent on Aug. 16.
Volleyball
The Reedley High Pirates girls volleyball team will take part in a scrimmage against Hoover High School on Friday, Aug. 10, at Hoover High.
They then will open their
2018 season on Tuesday, Aug. 14, against Yosemite High School in Reedley.
The Immanuel High Ea- gles volleyball team will not hold scrimmages, and open the season on Tuesday, Aug. 14 against Minarets High School.
Tennis
The Reedley High girls tennis team will scrimmage against Mt. Whitney High School of Visalia on Thursday, Aug. 9 in Visalia.
The Pirates will host Kings- burg High School on Tuesday, Aug. 14. It will be the season opener for the Pirates.
The Immanuel High girls tennis team will begin their season on Thursday, Aug. 16, against San Joaquin Memorial at the Immanuel Sports Com- plex.
Golf
The Pirates girls golf team open the season on Thursday, Aug. 9, against Sierra Pacific High School from Hanford.
Immanuel High will start the season on Tuesday, Aug. 14, against San Joaquin Me- morial High School.

The Reedley High Pirates opened practice for the 2018 season on July 30 at Reedley High School.
The Pirates start the season on Tuesday, Aug. 14, against Kings- burg High School in Reedley.

A new set of challenges will be put in front of schools from the Central Section as 13 schools from the Central Coast will be joining the Cen- tral Section.
They now will be com- peting for Central Section Championships after moving from the Southern Section.
The move of the 13 schools was approved two years ago but will go into ef- fect this fall.
The schools — Nipomo, Templeton, Atascadero, Morro Bay, Mission Prep, Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo, St. Joseph, Pioneer Valley, Righetti, Santa Ma- ria, Orcutt Academy and Paso Robles — had been a part of the Southern Section, a highly competitive region with around 600 schools that stretched from south of Los Angeles to northern San Luis Obispo County.
“I think it is good to have some new teams in the section,” said Randy Lepp, Reedley High Pirates girls tennis coach. “I look forward to playing some of those schools.”
