Arvi Edward, AKA Sonny AKA Jr. Nurmi, was born on April 9, 1951 in Carmel Ca. On February 7, 2021, Heaven gained a new angel when Jr. passed peacefully surrounded by his family, after a very short battle with lung cancer.
Jr. grew up in Reedley
and attended local schools,
Riverview K-7, at which time the
family moved into town from
the family ranch that still bares
the family name. Jr. finished
grade school graduating from 8th grade at General Grant, he went on and attended Reedley High School where he was very active. He lettered in football, wresting and diving. He also was very involved in drama and was one way or another involved in the school productions of the plays.
Three days after graduation from RHS, Jr. entered into the United States Air Force and proudly defended his country for the next four years in Vietnam specializing in communications. After his honorable discharge, Jr. came back to Reedley, hung around a short time then relocated to the bay area and worked at High Tech Communications, for several years. Leaving the Bay area Jr. settled in Sacramento and worked for Coca Cola Bottling Co. on Stockton Blvd. until retirement in 2013.
Jr. moved back to Reedley at that time to manage his properties he had acquired over the years. Growing up on the west side of the River, Jr. was part of an exclusive group of boys called The River Rats, that he was proud of until the day he died. Hard work in the fields was a way of life. The rewards was the river, while growing up in Reedley.
Jr. was very active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Reedley Little League, Reedley Marlin Swim Club, and active member in his church Full Gospel Tabernacle.
The family traveled frequently during summers, from Hume Lake to their family home in Pacific Grove. Holidays were no exception, memorable Christmases spent with family in the Azores and traveling for several weeks through Portugal and the Azores.
It was a standing “don’t call” if Nascar was on, his devotion for Nascar took him to races and tracks all over the nation as he followed his driver. Jr. was also a proud member of the NRA and American Legion Post 35.
We the family would like to thank Clovis Community Hospital, 4th Floor Dr. and nurses for the dignity, compassion, and love they provided our brother until the end.
Jr. was predeceased in death by his paternal grandparents, Nel & Mary (Hongola) Nurmi; maternal grandparents, Thomas and Louise (Dutra) Casmero, parents Arvi and Kathryn (Casmero) Nurmi Sr.
He leaves behind very broken hearted siblings, Kay Nurmi DiMuro, Fresno; Tom Nurmi, Reedley; Mari Paul, La Mesa; one nephew Joseph DiMuro III (Tres), Fresno; nieces Rebeca Stump, Maryland, and Tricia Iste, Illinois.
Celebration of Jr 70th birthday and Life will be on Friday, April 9, 2021.

James F. Huerta, a resident of Goshen, CA, age 64, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021 after losing his brief battle with cancer.
He leaves behind his high school sweetheart, Norma (Jeanie); children; Carolyn, James, Fabian and Rebecca, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother Carolyn, brother, Samuel and wife Kathy, brothers, Joseph and John Huerta, and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Joe Huerta, brothers, Jacob, Jeremiah and Jesse.
James lived many years in the Salinas/Castroville area, and after retiring from truck driving he settled back into the area a few years ago. He was a truck driver and what he most enjoyed about this job was being able to take his wife, Jeanie, his children and grandchildren along for the long drives. While on these long drives they were able to explore and see amazing places. Anyone having the privilege of listening to him talk about these trips could feel his joy and enthusiasm in the times shared there with his loved ones.
He was a simple man, a very caring man and loving son who loved family, friends, outdoors, BBQ’s, sports and roosters. He was also one who had an opinion on everything (that will be missed). Although we will miss him dearly, we will forever cherish the countless memories with him along with his stories on how he viewed life.

Ruben
“JR”
Piseno November 20, 1938 ~
December 21, 2020
Ruben “Jr” Piseno was born in Dinuba, California on November 20, 1938, and passed away December 21, 2020.
Ruben was raised in Dinuba, married, and had children. He later moved to Seaside, California, where he lived with his partner, Joy, for over 30 years.
Together, they burned up the casinos in Coarsegold and Lemoore, never leaving with empty pockets, and more than happy to spread their luck around to friends and family who joined them.
Ruben was well known on the coast and in the Valley for his famous annual Thanksgiving “Turkey Shoot” golf tournament, where the prize for every hole won was a 20 pound turkey. The tournament always garnered a large turnout because participants knew Ruben’s generous nature meant that win, lose, or draw, they all went home with a turkey.
When Ruben wasn’t in a casino or on the golf course, he could be found at any one of his favorite watering holes, where he was affectionately known by friends as “The Glove,” in reference to the trademark golf glove he wore after an accident in his youth.
After decades of driving up and down the coastal corridor, often delivering crates full of strawberries and various gifts to family, Ruben decided to retire to Fresno in 2017 to be close to his daughters and grandchildren. After a brief illness, he passed away on December 21, 2020.
Ruben’s laughter, generosity, and good heart will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Ruben was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Margaret Piseno, of Dinuba; his brothers Augie “Scruno” Piseno, Michael Fabela, and Ricardo Favela; his son, Rick Piseno; and his longtime partner, Joy.
He is survived by sisters Gloria Garcia, of Sacramento; Henrietta Moreno, of Dinuba; and Emily Cavazos, of Visalia; brother Bobby Piseno, of Fresno; daughters Sylvia Moreno and Rosie Serbera, of
Fresno; seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and two great- great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruben will be coming home to Smith Mountain Cemetery in Dinuba, California, on March 10, 2021, at 1:00 p.m.
