The Sanger Animal Shelter is full.
There is no more room.
If you've ever considered adopting or fostering now is the time. You could save lives.
Our Pet of the Week is Heidi, a shy 8-month-old husky mix with one blue and and one green eye. She was picked up while wandering and looking lost in the 2300 block of Holt Avenue.
Please call volunteer coor- dinator Kim Reed at (559) 250- 5270, animal control officer Mario Irazoqui at (559) 618- 9071 or volunteer Morgan Sha- fer at (206) 304-1093 or mes- sage the Sanger Animal Shelter Facebook page and leave your email address to find out about the regular adoption process or to make an appointment to
meet the dogs who are ready to be your new best friend.
Let Kim Reed know if you're able to provide a temporary fos- ter home for any of the shelter dogs.
"We need more adoptions and foster homes and we need them as soon as possible," she said. "We have new dogs com- ing in every week and we have to have some place to put them."
Also let Reed know if you can donate treats, bowls, collars, harnesses or leashes.
"We would really like to have more 'step in' harnesses because when some of the dogs first get to the shelter they're a little skit- tish about having a harness put on them," she said.

Those early days of retire- ment can be exciting as you are finally rewarded with a little rest and relaxation af- ter all those years of toil.
But it can be a bit unset- tling as well when the regu- lar paychecks you counted on stop appearing in your bank account.
That’s why anyone who’s still a few years away from retirement should ask them- selves: Am I ready for that moment both financially and emotionally?
The answer could come down to whether you have a solid retirement plan — or a plan at all.
“Regardless of how much you accumulate for your re- tirement, poor planning or lack of planning can put you at risk of exhausting your resources,” says Tad Hill, a retirement planner and au- thor of Retire with Freedom: The Five Steps to Getting a Good Night’s Sleep After the Paychecks Stop (www.ask- freedomfinancial.com).
Hill says people near- ing the end of their work- ing years should follow this five-step process for a more secure retirement:
• Create your ideal pic- ture of retirement. What is it you want out of retirement? Do you want to travel? Vol- unteer with a charity? Spend time with the grandkids? The first step isn’t about your fi- nancial portfolio, Hill says, it’s about forming a clear im- age of the big “why” of your ideal retirement.
• Put your situation to the
“stress test.” With the help of a financial professional, give your retirement plan a “stress test.” That can in- clude reviewing how to best maximize your Social Secu- rity benefits and examining how your portfolio might perform under a variety of market scenarios.
• Design your plan. De- signing a retirement plan, Hill says, is much like creat- ing the blueprint for a house. “These blueprints identify the strategies available to help minimize risk, increase certainty, avoid excess taxes and ensure an adequate re- tirement income,” he said.
• Build the plan. Once the design is agreed upon, it’s time to implement it. “That can mean making changes to your current structure, add- ing some things and getting rid of others,” Hill says.
• Seek continued guid- ance. Even a great retire- ment plan may need tweaks and adjustments over the years. “Times change, peo- ple change and situations change,” Hill says. With his clients, he holds a regular yearly consultation to help ensure they are on the right pathway to retirement suc- cess at all times. “You need to look at whether there are things that have changed in your life that need attention,” he says.
“There are no guarantees of anything in life, including how your retirement will work out,” Hill says. “But taking action to create a solid and well-thought-out plan for this important part of your life is a critical first step.”
