Three injured Aug. 25 in crash near Orosi
One of the new interpretive signs that's been installed by the Kings River Conservancy provided background on bugs and insects that inhabit the river area.
MVT Staff Report
Two adults and a child were rushed to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia after a vehicle collision on Aug. 25 near Orosi. The child and one adult were from Dinuba.
At approximately 4:36 p.m., officers from the California Highway Patrol, Visalia Area Of- fice, responded to a call of an injury traffic colli- sion on Avenue 416 near
Road 120.
According to offi-
cers, Francisco Espino, 49, of Visalia was driv- ing a 2013 Nissan east- bound on Avenue 416, east of Road 120, when for unknown reasons he allowed his vehicle to westbound lanes.
Traveling westbound on Avenue 416 in a 2011 Mazda was Cassandra Herrera, 27, of Dinuba. Traveling with Herrera were her three children, ages 10, 3 and 1.
Officers say Espino’s vehicle collided head-on with Herrera’s vehicle. The force of the crash pushed the Mazda into the adjacent westbound lane, causing a 2008 Chevrolet driven by Daniel Alvarez, 42, of San Miguel, to crash in- to the rear part of Her- rera’s vehicle.
All parties involved were treated by emer- gency personnel at the scene. Espino, who suf- fered major injuries, was extricated from his vehicle and trans- ported via helicopter to Kaweah Delta Medical Center.
Herrera also suf- fered major injuries as a result of the col- lision. A 10-year-old
female traveling with Herrera also suffered moderate injuries. Herrera and her three children were all taken to Kaweah Delta Medi- cal Center for further treatment.
Alvarez was not in- jured as a result of the crash, said officers.
Officers say alcohol and/or drugs appear to be a contributing fac- tor in the collision. The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information re- garding the traffic col- lision is encouraged to contact Officer Popov- ich at the Visalia Area CHP Office at (559) 734- 6767.
