The Reedley High School chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) participated at the organization’s 2019 National Leadership Conference in Southern California.
The event, held from June 29 to July 24 at the Anaheim Convention Center, attracted more than 8,500 members from the U.S. Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin IslandsandJapan.The conference featured general sessions, workshops, a college expo and competitions.
This year’s attending members completed the FCCLA National Leadership Academy; aoneday,fivecourse program developed for members as part of their Ultimate Leadership Experience.

pin. They also ran in the FCCLA Run 4 the RED 5K event at Angels Stadium in Anaheim. That service project raised funds for a local charity.
The Reedley chapter also competed in National STAR Events. STAR, or Students Taking Action with Recognition, Events recognize members for their proficiency and achievement in individual projects.
Chapter members were judged individually on their oral presentation, display board, portfolio and a question-and- answer session with a panel of judges.
Sophomore Michel earned a silver medal recognition for promoteandpublicize. Her event focused on promotionacampaign of public awareness through social media. Sophomore Del Rio earned a silver for sport nutrition, with her event focusing on a hydration and nutrition plan for a student athlete.
Sophomore Bedolla earned a bronze for a chapter service project focusing on the dangers of teen drinking and driving.
Lisa Bueno, a Reedley High School teacher and chapter adviser, traveled with the students to the conference. The students made new friends and possible lifelong contacts from around the country. They hope to qualify and attend the 2020 National Leadership Conference in Washington D.C.
The Reedley High chapter will once again partner with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and FCCLA. The students hope to inform their peers about the dangers of e-cigarette use and how their voice can help them #BeTheFirst tobacco- free generation. Reedley was one of threeFCCLAchapters in 2018 to receive a $1,000 grant from the Campaign for Tobacco- Free Kids.
