of picking top candidates because many prospects want to enter the district.
She added that one of the reasons new teacher like the Dinuba Unified is because of their mentor program, where every new teacher is paired with an experienced teacher as a mentor.
“We were one of the
first district’s to imple- ment a mentor program for new teachers,” said Kochevar.
And the district is also turning out instructors, as Kochevar noted that of the 32 teachers added this year nine are from Dinuba and are Dinuba High School graduates.
The district will also be adding a College and Career Readiness Coun- selor thanks to a $560,000
Strong Workforce Grant they were able to secure.
Manjeet Dail, the dis- trict’s college and career director, told the board that the grant will also allow the district to hire a work-based learning director and still leave available funds to pour into the district’s pathway programs. Because the grant is provides funding for pathway programs that are also available at
the junior college level, not all pathway programs in the district will see the benefits.
“We want all of our pathway programs to be high quality,” said Dail. “But for now we will be focusing on Auto and Ag.”
Those programs are also available at Reedley College.
The grant was award- ed to the district on July 1. And though the fund- ing has yet to be received, the district may begin to
utilize the funds immedi- ately, said Dail.
She said the district was also able to secure grants through Valley ROP (Regional Occu- pational Program). Ap- proximately $68,000 was awarded for the district’s medical pathway pro- gram and will be used for professional develop- ment.
Another $60,000 was awarded for the district’s welding program. That money, according to Dail
will be used for supplies and materials.
The board also moved to approve the purchase of a software program that staff members say will dramatically improve the district’s abilities to track an report free and reduced lunches. The in- formation is used to pe- tition for grant funding and the program, called RocketScan, will make it easier, more efficient and would require far less staffing hours to collect.

Waves of loud cheering, mu- sic, and applause could be heard from inside the gym at the Or- ange Cove High School campus on the morning of Aug. 14 as stu- dents and faculty gathered for their annual first day of school rally.
“The rally’s something we’ve been doing for the past three years, its a way to kick off the school year instead of just hav- ing everyone go to their class- rooms,” said Angel Duranzo, principal at OCHS.
“We like to start things this way, introducing everyone, in- troducing our staff because sometimes we have new staff members and this way we can have everyone introduced.”
Duranzo said it’s important for the school's incoming fresh- men to begin the first day on the right track.
We are really stressing about build- ing positive relationships showing that they care and that way all our students can reach their highest potential.

“We are really stressing about building positive relation- ships showing that they care and that way all our students can reach their highest poten- tial,” he said. “As for the rest of our students, this is an opportu- nity to welcome our freshmen in and just to get situated and just to get ready for another great year.”
The rally included games, musical numbers, and introduc- tion to new staff members.
“Summer just flew by, al- most like you just blink and its all over,” he said.
In all 657 students are en- rolled at the high school.
