Water contractors south of Delta receive allocation boost
Contributed
Water contractors south of the San Joaquin Delta last week received another boost in Central Valley Proj- ect allocations for the 2019 contract year.
On April 17, the Bureau of Recla-
mation announced an increase to 65 percent of their contract total. The bureau said the update reflected on- going water supply because of con- tinued precipitation in March and early April.
“This has been a great year for California’s water supply,” said Mid-
Pacific Regional Director Ernest Conant. “The increased precipita- tion has allowed us to increase the amount of water we allocate to our South-of-Delta contractors. Our goal is to maximize the supply available to our contractors in the short term, while continuing to improve the reli-
ability of CVP water supplies in the long run. This is the type of year when additional storage and con- veyance capacity would benefit the CVP.”
Water running through the Kings River is part of the Kings River Wa- ter Authority. For the second time
in three years, the region has done early water releases to ease heavy spring and summer runoff.
South-of-Delta allocations for municipal and industrial contrac- tors’ allocations are increased to 90

Rural fire north of town April 23 burns equipment
The afternoon of April 23, a commercial fire on Alta Avenue and South Avenues just outside of Reedley could be seen for miles as a large plume of black smoke filled the air. The fire was on the property of the Sun Pacific Farming Company. Tree stakes, pallets and fruit bins were burning, but no structures were threatened. Several fire crews, including Reedley Fire and Fres- no County Fire, were on scene to help extinguish the flames.
