Sanger road may reopen as soon as next week
MVT Staff Report
Academy Avenue in Sanger may be opening as soon as next week, as crew members were out this week putting the final touches on a four- month long road renova- tion project.
On Jan. 28, workers from Fresno Concrete Construction along with workers from High Per- formance Turf were working in front of Chuck Wagon, at the in- tersection of Academy Avenue and 12th Street, leveling out the concrete in front of the landmark eatery as well as install- ing artificial turf in what will soon be a new 'Wel- come to Sanger' land- scaped corner.
Engineers from the project say all the road work has been complet- ed and only small details remain before the road can be opened again.
The news comes as a relief for Sanger's long- standing establishment, Chuck Wagon. Workers from the popular hot dog stand say, because of the recent road con- ditions, the business has been losing as much as $3,000 weekly.

Christian Minjares of High Performance Turf installed artificial turf at the intersection of Academy and Annadale avenues where the landscaped corner will soon feature a new 'Welcome to Sanger' sign.
The project began last year in early Oc- tober and was funded by Regional Measure C funds. The project con- sisted of grinding and replacing the asphalt from North Avenue to just south of Annad- ale Avenue, an area of about 850 feet.
The second phase of the project consisted of realigning the roadway south of 11th Street to just south of Annadale Avenue. And the final phase of the project involved reconstruct- ing the traffic signal at North Avenue, adding protected left turns.
Crew members from Fresno Concrete Construction leveled the area in front of Chuck Wagon to line up with the newly constructed sidewalk at the intersection
of Academy Avenue and 12th Street on Jan. 28.
