Tigers drop nal game before Reedley College suspensions

In its final game before the suspen- sion of the season due to the Corona- virus outbreak, the Reedley College Baseball Tigers were held to three hits in a 4-1 loss at Merced College on March 10.
In the latest rankings, Reedley is 14th in the state. The Tigers are in
third place in the Central Valley Con- ference standings at 7-3 and 15-6 over-
all.
In the March 10 game, Merced
jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a first inning home run and never looked back.
Alex Ortiz scored the Tigers’ only run after an eighth inning double and a sacrifice fly by Tresten Bumutay.

A Thursday afternoon loss at home to Porterville College dropped the Reedley College Tiger softball team from first place to third place in the Central Valley Conference standings.
Coach Kathy Kuball’s Tigers dropped to 5-2 in the CVC and 12-13 overall after the 8-5 loss in nine in- nings. Reedley used a two-out rally to tie the game in the bottom of the sev- enth inning to force extra innings be- fore Porterville used three singles, a walk and a lead off triple to score three runs in the top half of the ninth.
Ellie Montalvo started the seventh inning rally with a single before scor- ing on a double by Alyssa Acosta.

Reedley High badminton hands Edison lopsided defeat

Apache senior Kosi Agina and his younger brother, sophomore Chidera Agina, both collected individual wins. Kosi took the long jump in 20-5 1/2 while Chidera captured the triple jump at 41- 1. The pair also tied for third place be- hind teammate Jose Porras in the 100 meters, clocking season bests of 24.39. Porras also had a 2020 best of 23.54 to edge Reedley’s Devin Decker (23.58).
Juan Zamora clocked 2:06.81 in the 800 to lead a top-four finish for the Apaches while Emanuel Salas won the 1600 in 4:48.37. Junior Noe Navarro had a winning throw of 129-5 in the discus.

Medina shines at Dinuba High's St. Patrick's Day Classic

The Annual St. Pat- rick’s Day Classic was held on March 11 at Dinu- ba High School as Chow- chilla High’s boys team and the Liberty High girls team emerged as team champions.
Nathaniel Medina of Dinuba won the 110 hurdles in a time of 18.64 while Samuel Angulo of Orange Cove was second in 19.26. Medina made it a sweep in the hurdles win-
ning the 300 in 43.99. Evyn Rueles of Di- nuba won the triple jump with a mark of 38-feet-4 1⁄2 inches and teammate Alan Gallo was fourth, 35- 5. Thrower Esteven Diaz took 2nd in the shot put
with a mark of 46-1 1⁄2. The Emperors re- lay team of Noah Garza, Francisco Aburto, Gallo and Devon Mendoza had a time of 46.67, for 2nd place. Dinuba had two other relay teams that were fourth and fifth
place.

Orosi was third in the 200 meters in a time of 24.50, just ahead of Abur- to (24.74) and Michael Flores of OC (24.91).
In the girls shot put, freshman Caprise Mo- rales won with a throw of 33-7 and Shadia Franco of Orange Cove was 2nd at 32-9. In the discus event, Aimee Quevedo of Orosi was 1st with a mark of 85-6.
Natalie Crisosto was 2nd in the 1600 in a time of 6:17.03 ahead of Orosi’s Karina Chavez (6:19.52).
Dinuba’s Kassandra Carbajal placed 3rd in the 200 in a time of 28.79 and also took 4th in the 100 (1385)aheadoffreshman teammate, Apolonia Mar- tinez (14.19).
Alexandra Ontive- ros was 4th in the 800 in 2:49.21 for Dinuba and Luzmi Ramirez was 5th in 2:53.37. Ramirez also took 4th in the 1600 in 6:24.77 and Yaque- lin Avilez placed 5th in 6:38.05.
In the hurdles events, Citalli Garcia had a time of 56.23 for 3rd in the 300 and was 4th in the 100 in 21.51 for 4th overall.
Kaylee Villasenor (26- 0) and Maria Miranda (25- 11) were 4th and 5th in the triple jump for DHS.
