January 26, 1934 ~ January 17, 2021
Ralph Parichan, born in 1934,
husband to Hedy for 59 years,
father to Eric and Kevin, grandfather
to Craig, Daniel, and Brett, died peacefully
on Sunday, January 17, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Albert, and brother James.
For over 30 years he was the owner of the family business, Sam’s Shoe Store, which was founded in Reedley in 1914. During this time, Ralph supported the local community and downtown in various ways, including being an early member of the Reedley Downtown Association. Whether it was being mistaken for “Sam”, spending time with his coffee club buddies, letting people know that “it’s all fixed”, or playing a round of golf with friends, he freely shared his gentle smile and laugh.
Eventually Eric would take over the shoe store, and though Ralph never really retired from the shoe business, he and Hedy spent many years traveling together, taking cruises and visiting her family in Austria. In their later years together, Ralph was devoted to taking care of Hedy as her health declined, and regularly attended services at Sts. Sahag-Mesrob Armenian Church.
Even when Hedy was confined to a nursing home, Ralph would visit her daily to comfort her and bring her the occasional chocolate, fruit, or other treat that he knew she loved. In his last few moments of life, Hedy was there with him and was able to provide some comfort to him as he passed away.

Two-way traffic flowed again along eastbound Manning Avenue just east of Reed Av- enue in Reedley on Jan. 26. The roadway reopened to through traffic on Jan. 22 after being closed for weeks to install a sewer and water main beneath the roadway surface. For now, the roadway is open to two-way traffic, although the temporary surface is rough from the construction. The city of Reedley's Engineering Department said that that construction is being suspended until early spring when the weather warms up. At that time, work crews will repave the entire roadway at that spot.

came a partner with his father before assuming sole ownership of the business in 1968.
He remained the pri-
mary owner/manager of Sam's Shoes for another 24 years, bringing Eric Parichan on as a part- ner in 1992. He initially remodeled the store in 1969 and later did an ex- tensive remodel in 1983
that included refurbish- ing, exterior improve- ments and rear signing on the building.
Eric said his father remained a close adviser to him and the business in the years after retire- ment.
"Having him come in every day, I could bounce stuff off of him. If he had issues, I could help him, if I had issues, he could help me. He was always there for me," he said.
