Bulldogs capture MWC softball championship

Fresno State's Vanessa Hernandez (23) of Sanger leads off from first base in a Moun- tain West Conference softball game with Boise State in Fresno on May 9. The Bulldogs wrapped up the MWC title with a 3-1 victory as Hernandez went 2-for-3 and drove in all three runs. The junior infielder leads the team with a .373 average. The Bulldogs (34-9) play at San Diego State in a three-game series starting Friday, May 14.

Apaches teams 2-2 in CMAC play
Sanger High's boys dropped a pair of Country Metro Athletic Conference games last week. The Apaches (5-6, 2-2) were outscored 96-73 at home in a May 5 game with first place San Joa- quin Memorial, then were edged 81-80 at Edison High on May 7.
The Apaches girls (5-8, 2-2 CMAC) blasted Edison 67-40 on May 7, two days after dropping an 80-38 decision to first place San Joaquin Memorial.

Pirates clinch third straight NYL title
Reedley High's boys wrapped up a third con- secutive North Yosemite League championship on May 10 with a 3-2 victory over the Sunnyside High Wildcats at Sal Gonza- lez field. The Pirates (11-4-5 overall) finished an unblemished league season, winning seven matches and tying two.
In a 5-1 win over Fresno High, Levy Al-
cantar collected two goals and an assist while Isaac Cardenas added a goal and two assists. Other RHS goal scorers were Jose Magallon and Jesus Barajas.
The Pirates will learn their seeding and playoff matchup for the Division I playoffs on Saturday, May 15. Reedley hopes for a high seeding to get at least two home play- off matchups.
Dinuba wraps up CSL crown
The Dinuba High boys wrapped up the Central Sequoia League title on May 10, blank- ing the visiting Hanford West Huskies 4-0 at Claud Hebert Field.
The Emperors (11- 3-1, 9-0-1) posted their second straight shutout, having earlier blanked Exeter 6-0 on May 8. Gio Romero scored two goals while Jairo Medina, Jona Zapien and Juan Gra- nado also found the net. Dinuba also won 3-1 at Central Valley Christian on May 6, and the team's only league blemish was a 1-1 tie with Selma on April 27.
The Emperors closed the regular season at Selma on May 12, then learn their seeding for the section Division II playoffs on Saturday,

Levy Alcantar, Reedley High - Boys Soccer
Junior Levy Alcantar scored two goals and added an assist in a 5-1 victory over Fresno High on May 5, and also added a goal in a 3-0 victory over second place Roosevelt on May 3. Through 19 matches, Alcantar had a team-leading 30 points with eight goals and 14 assists for the Pirates, who remained unbeaten in North Yosemite League matches through May 5.

RC baseball sweeps Taft
MVT Staff Report
The Reedley College baseball team improved to 11-7 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of Taft College in Reedley on May 7. Scores were 10-7 and 16-0.
Infielders B.J. Vela and Jesse Holguin had
six hits and five hits, re- spectively, in the double- header sweep.
The Tigers hosted Fresno City Colelge on May 11, then played the Rams in Fresno on May 12. RC hosts Merced Col- lege in a doubleheader at noon and 3 p.m. on Fri- day, May 14.
