Four years ago I ran
for City Council because I believed we could improve the quality of life for all resi- dents in the City of Sanger. We had a real bad gang and drug problem in our area. Four years later, we still
do, but not as bad. Plus, the City's Police Department has initiated a drug and gang prevention program in coop- eration with Sanger Unified. We still have a lot of work to

do with these two problems. I consider the opportunity to serve as Councilman a privi- lege, a serious responsibility, and a great challenge. We need productive after school programs, such as recre- ation, tutoring, and/or part-time jobs for our chil- dren. We should offer better alternatives, such as continu- ing the drug prevention programs, gang prevention programs, and starting a gang intervention program for those youths that want to change their lives. Our chil- dren desire better; and they deserve a second chance. As your councilperson, these will be my priorities.
Walking the neighbor- hoods in District 2 has revealed your concerns, such as public safety, jobs,
fixing the streets and pot- holes, better traffic control, and eliminating the gangs and drugs in our area; plus,
eliminating the stench from the chicken factory and the winery - the side effects of living in a poor community.
We can do better!
There are other problems we need to address. We need a public swimming pool
in the "Chankla" area. The Wilson public pool is always full, standing room only. The river and the canals are not safe alternatives for our kids. The City of Sanger also needs a large park, a sport complex, about 20 acres, with soccer and baseball fields. Bringing the City up to code, sidewalks, curbs, and more streetlights, especially in our area are "a must do" priority.
I promise to work dili- gently to addressing these problems.
Qualifications? I am a retired university professor/ administrator.
City Council District No. 4 Michael Montelongo
I’ve been a part of Sanger for my entire life. I’ve seen this town go through its fair share of booms and busts. After I got married, we put down permanent roots by buying our first home here nine years ago. I’m not going anywhere and want to ensure this is a town all our children can be proud of growing up in. I don’t want the residents of any corner of this town to feel forgotten about, and I
want to make sure everyone feels heard. From crime to potholes, I want us to work together and fix our prob- lems.
We need city hall to be fiscally responsible and transparent in all that it does, and work with and for its residents. With everyone working together, this town can be not only a great place to live, but a great place to do business.

I am a proud, lifelong Sanger resident. I am also a father of five, a husband, a grandpa and owner of a small business located in Sanger.
I am honored to currently serve as the City’s mayor
pro tem. Through my role
on the City Council over the years, I have demonstrated
a track record of being fis- cally responsible. I take the responsibility of influencing how we invest our tax dollars very seriously. An example of this is when I opposed the 8 percent cost of living in- crease for the then recently hired City Manager, that he attempted to inherit it while negotiating on behalf of the city’s executive management team.
I will continue to hold our City Manager and his employees accountable.
I do not support outsourc- ing City services because I believe we have a city staff that should work efficiently on our behalf.
I have a vision for Sanger and its future. I want you to see our tax dollars at work
in Sanger by maintaining a safe community that includes a good quality of life for families and our youth. I am currently in support of an

I am excited to announce that I have decided to run for Sanger City Council to rep- resent District 4. I have over 20 years of public service as a former law enforcement officer, Council member, and Mayor of Sanger. During
my previous tenure on the City Council, I represented Sanger on the Council of Governments and the Local Agency Formation Commis- sion (LAFCo) which gener-
ated regional funding for

The city has a transpar- ency and trust problem where we have become stagnant and the concentra- tion has turned away from growth and the needs of the citizens. We need to find our momentum again and unite our leadership to analyze the future progression of the city while gaining the trust of the people. While putting forth the citizens interests and needs we need to focus
on growth including jobs, ad-
