Newest stretch of Highway 180 open to traffic

The long wait has ended. The State Route-180 Kings Canyon Expressway near Centerville and Minkler now is open to traffic.
The transition took place in the evening and over- night hours Feb. 10-11, with a new four-lane highway skirting north of the two communities northeast of Sanger. There are new ac- cess routes opened, along with a newly-built stretch of Reed Avenue now reaches to the new expressway and includes a traffic signal.
As of Feb. 11, vehicles were traveling along the new roadway and access roads also were open. The newest project means motorists can drive either four-express- way or freeway along High- way 180 from Fresno to just east of Minkler.
The $55 million project was locally funded by le- veraging Fresno County's Measure C half-cent trans- portation sales tax dollars with state and federal trans- portation revenues. Final completion of the project is expected by the fall, weath- er permitting.
Blossom Trail is blooming in Mid Valley Times country
Milder temperatures in the Central Valley mean blossoms in the orchards. Last week- end marked the official opening of the Blossom Trail, which spans the cities of Reedley, Orange Cove, Sanger, Selma and Fowler. These early blossoms were captured just east of Sanger. The Blossom Trail lasts until March.
