For The Exponent
The Kings Canyon Uni- fied School District’s Vocal Music Department dazzled once again with their annual fall concert on Oct. 24 in col- laboration with the Reedley College Choir program.
The concert at Reedley High School’s Performing Arts Theatre was led by Da- vid dela Concepcion. He has been the choir director at RHS for a year.
“We have many new students this year,” De la Concepcion said, the Choir Director for the KCUSD Vo- cal Music program. “It came with a lot of excitement and growth. There are lots of things to learn with the new students in choir, getting used to singing in a group, being on stage, and just singing more in general.”
The concerted was filled with students from Reedley High School, Orange Cove High School and Reedley Col- lege.
To open up the show, the Reedley High Mixed Choir along with the Orange Cove Concert Choir performed the national anthem. That was followed by “Dust in the Wind” written by the rock group Kansas in 1977 and ar- ranged by Roger Emerson. Caleb Barker performed on the synthesizer and Edgar Mendez played guitar. The final piece by the group was ‘Witness,’ arranged by Roger Emerson.
“We’re a pretty good group, we all get along,” said Leal, a Reedley High junior. “Being my first year with the
Madrigals, everyone was wel- coming to me. The moment we started singing and re- hearsing together, the whole world stopped and we just became this big family.”
The RHS Madrigals fol- lowed with a performances of “Duerme.” arranged by Ramon Noble; “Azulao.” ar- ranged by Duarte with Corey Dobbins on the guitar, and finally “Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit,” arranged by Phil Dawson. Evan Leal and Edgar Mendez were soloists for the piece.
“I felt pretty good about the Madrigals this year,” ju-
nior Balladarez said. “Every- one is really solid, on point and it is all has gone pretty good. I’m confident that all of the performances we’ll have this year is going to have a great turnout.”
The Reedley College Concert Choir, led by direc- tor Harmony Murphy and pianist Jessica Williams, performed two numbers in “Give Me the Splendid Silent Sun,”arranged by Eugene Butler, and “Choose Some- thing Like a Star.” arranged by Randall Thompson.

Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested 56-ear-old David King of Squaw Valley. HehasbeenbookedintotheFresno County Jail on a felony charge of attempted robbery. His bail was set at $12,500.
A news release from the sheriff’s of- fice said that at about 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 31, a Fresno County Sheriff’s deputy assigned to work in the courts, was walking toward his office when he was approached by a man (David King).
King confronted the deputy, who was not in uniform at the time, in the area of Fresno and P Streets in downtown Fresno. King ex- plained to the deputy he had all of his prop- erty stolen and he needed money. King then proceeded to reach into his jacket as he told the deputy he wanted all of his money.
The deputy saw King begin to pull a gun out of his jacket. The deputy quickly grabbed ahold of King’s hand and maintained
