Rough Riders' opportunities were few and far between during the first 40 minutes.
Roosevelt had more of- fense in the second half, but the Pirates remained strong in the midfield and yielded only a couple of close scor- ing opportunities. Coach Eric Velarde said the team was able to effectively handle the difficult field conditions that limited the players' offensive attack.
Against Fresno, junior Phillip Rico scored two of his three goals in the first half while freshman Gustavo Ledesma and senior Rudy Ta- foya also scored.
Reedley bounced back from a 1-2-1 showing in Santa Maria, which featured 1-0 shutout losses to Santa Ma- ria and Arroyo Grande and a scoreless tie with Righetti from Santa Maria.
The Pirates will play at Hoover at 3 p.m. on Wednes- day, Jan. 23, then host Roos- evelt in a rematch at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25.
