Valley’s bad air quality could affect
eye health

The California wild- fire season has affected residents across the state, driving families out of their homes and worsening the San Joaquin Valley’s existing poor air quality. The smoke from nearby fires oftentimes becomes the air residents breathe, harming our lungs and our eyes.
Poor air quality can have a variety of negative effects on your eye health. Redness, watering, burn- ing sensations, itchiness, and blurry vision, as well as other general vision problems, make people’s eyes incredibly sensitive when constantly exposed to the smoke’s harmful agents.
On top of that, air pollu- tion may cause inflamma- tion and lead to long-term consequences, like chronic dry eye.

Traffic moved along Reed Avenue past Reedley Col- lege on Aug. 10. That was the first day that roadwork as part of a repaving project temporarily halted for three weeks. Students at Reedley College will be able to enter and leave the college’s east parking lot with minimal detours during this time. When work resumes on the roadway, additional cones and detour information will be in place to assist students getting onto the campus.
