Mid Valley Times
On the eve of hosting its annual Dinuba Invi- tational tournament, the Dinuba High wrestling team posted a second place team finish at an- other hosted tourna- ment, The Bash.
Clovis High School won the 17-team event on Dec. 30 with 255.5 points, with the Emper- ors scoring 178.5 points to beat out Monache (168.5) for second place. The champion Cougars had weight class win- ners in Eli Granada (120 pounds), Robert Orne- las (126) Adrien Reyes (160), Wyatt Merkord (170) and Evan Marquez (195).
Dinuba was led by heavyweight Javier Martinez and 145-pound
Nichola Coen Quintana, both of whom won their weight class. Martinez, ranked second in the state behind Palm Des- ert's Daniel Herrera, went 3-0 in The Bash at 285 pounds and defeated Matthew Miller of Clovis by a 1-0 decision in the finals.
Martinez (21-3 in the season) received the Don Olson Award for outstanding overall wrestler and also was awarded the Outstand- ing Upper Weight wres- tler award.
Quintana, meanwhile, improved to 14-4 on the season with a 4-1 deci- sion over Monache's Edgar Batres. His three victories earned him the Outstanding Middle Weight wrestler honors, while Redwood's Isaak Mendoza (106) was the

ter. The Pirates had three medalists in Ce- sar Guzman (fifth place at 132), Nicholas Ochoa (third place at 138) and Jesus Acosta (seventh place at 285).
Emperors coach Kent Olson said The Bash was cut from two days to a single day because of the uncertainty of wrestling teams travel- ing during the holiday season because of CO- VID-19. Some tourna- ments in state already had been canceled, but this week's Dinuba invi- tational is scheduled to field a full slate of teams and a two-day format on

Dinuba also had sec- ond place finishers in Ja- sias Gonzalez-Carrasco (113 pounds), Nicholas Quintana (120), Jesus Loreto (132) and Jose Martinez (195).
Coupled with a third
place finish from Rich- ard Moreno as 132 pounds, the Emperors had enough depth to outlast Monache and its five weight class cham- pions. Collecting gold for the Marauders were Ja- cob Estrada (113), Jacob Perez (132), Wanderlei
Whittington (138), An- thony Estrada (152) and Dagan Allee (220) as they equalled Clovis in the individual champion standings.
