The good news continued for the Fresno State football program on Jan. 2, when star wide receiver Jalen Cropper announced on social media that he's planning to return to the team for the 2022 season.
Buzz surrounded the Parlier na- tive and former Sanger High and Buchanan High standout, who earlier had said he was leaving the door open to declaring for the National Football League Draft after denying any plans to enter the transfer portal.
He put any speculation to rest over the weekend, declaring on his Twitter account that he would be back at Fresno State this fall to play for newly-returning head coach Jeff Tedford.
Cropper's message:
"Dear Red wave friends and fam- ily. These past 3 years have been life changing and the memories I have made with my teammates and this staff are ones that I will church forever. I'm grateful of everyone in the organization believing in me and helping me here as a man and as an athlete.
"With that be- ing said, I'd like to announce that I will be returning to Fresno State to continue my aca- demic and athlet- ic career [to] get back to work with Coach Teddy, the team and the staff he has put togeth- er. Go Dogs"
Jalen Cropper
Cropper led Fresno State receiv- ers with 85 receptions for 899 yards and 11 touchdowns, and set a new school single-game record with four TD catches in a win over UNLV. At Sanger High, he was one of the Apach- es' main offensive weapons during a 2016 section championship season.
Cropper's announced return was followed by the return for a "super se- nior" season by running back Jordan Mims. Also, quarterback Jake Haener will be back in 2022 after returning to the Bulldogs for a New Mexico Bowl victory. Haener briefly entered the transfer portal following the depar- ture of head coach Kalen DeBoer to the University of Washington.
