First Annual Javier Bejar Memorial Tournament
Pirates softball wins inaugural title

The Reedley High School Pirates softball team is pictured after winning the First Annual Javier Bejar Memorial Tournament on March 10 at Reedley High School. The Pirates went 4-0 in the tournament and, as of March 13, were 7-1-1 overall.

The Reedley High Pirates softball team dominated at the First Annual Swing into Spring Javier Bejar Memorial Tournament March 9 and 10 in Reedley.
The Pirates went 4-0, with three shutout victories, to cap- ture the tournament champi- onship.
Reedley Hig – who were 7-1-1 overall as of March 13 – defeated Coalinga High 3-0 to open the tournament on March 9. They then defeated Mission Oak High 13-2.
On March 10, the Pirates beat Tranquility High 16-0.
The Pirates then defeated Liberty-Madera Ranchos 3-0 in the second game on March
10 to win the title.
“We came together as a
team and got the job done,” said Kathryn Buckley, Reed-
ley High head coach. “We focused on getting each out and winning each at bat. Our championship game against Liberty was a huge test for us. They are a solid team and they came to win. Those are the games I love. I want to see my team compete. This weekend they showed every- one what they are capable of achieving.”
Reedley High was com- ing off a 10-0 victory over the Orange Cove High Titans on March 8, and a 23-6 rout over Porterville High on March 6. Both games were played at Reedley High School.

RHS baseball defeats Lemoore High School

Krystale Gutierrez, Im- manuel High Eagles basket- ball senior, walked off the court at Foothill Tech High School on March 10 knowing she had just played her final game for the Eagles.
The season for Gutierrez and the No. 7 seed Eagles' ended with a 45-35 loss to the No. 2 seed Dragons of Ventura in the second round of the CIF State Division IV Southern California Regional playoffs in Ventura.
“Playing in my final game was a bittersweet moment,” Gutierrez said. “I had the op- portunity to play for Immanu- el for four years and, because of that I made memories I will cherish for life. We had a great year and playing one last game gave me the chance to play with my friends one last time.”
The Eagles finished the season with a 24-10 over- all record and won a Cen- tral Section Division III Championship.
On March 10 against Foot- hill Tech, Ava Galpin scored 15 points and had seven re- bounds rebounds. Gutierrez had eight points and nine re- bounds, while Aaliyah Seuell
had seven points.

As of March 13, the Reed- ley High Pirates baseball team is 3-3 overall, following a loss to Selma High School and a win over Lemoore High.
The Pirates lost to the SHS Bears 5-0 on March 7 at Reedley High School.
They then defeated Lemoore High 5-3 on March 10 in a game played at Madera South High.
The games were part of the Central Valley Diamond Baseball Classic.
No statistics were avail- able for the Pirates' game against Selma High.
In the March 10 win over Lemoore, JP Preciado picked up the win on the mound.
He pitched six innings and struck out nine batters.

The Reedley College Ti- gers baseball team started Central Valley Conference with three straight wins, sweeping a three game series against Taft College.
The Tigers defeated Taft College 7-1 on March 6, 13-9 on March 8, and 9-4 on March 10.
On March 6, Brady Bar- cellos picked up the win on the mound, pitching a complete game. He allowed just one run and struck out eight batters.
Jackson Leach and Mitch- ell Crawford each had two RBIs. Kevin Page, Luke Juarez and Cooper Morrsion each had one.
On March 8, the Tigers defeated Taft College 13-9 in Taft.
Reedley College trailed 9-5 entering the ninth inning, before scoring eight runs in
the top of the ninth to take a 13-9 lead.
Masyn Ashworth earned the win on the mound. Nick Martinez and Luke Juarez each had three RBIs. Damien Holmes had two RBIs.
On March 10, Reedley Col- lege beat Taft 9-4 in Reedley.
Alec Akins pitched six in- nings, allowing just three runs and striking out four batters to secure the win.
Martinez had two RBIs, while Blake Hernandez, Ty Bamford, Page and Crawford each had one.
The Tigers played Merced College on March 12. No score was available at presstime.
They will play Merced College on Thursday, March 15, at Reedley College and Sat- urday, March 17, in Merced.
