Eric Velarde, Reedley High Pirates boys soccer head coach, led the Pirates to the 2018 Central Section Division II Championship. Velarde is a graduate of Reedley High and dreamed of returning the Pirates soccer program to the top. A full story on his journey will be published in the March 22 edition of The Exponent.

Lauren Costa and Julia Jimenez each had a home
run. Costa had three RBIs, while Jimenez, Mickayla Vil- lareal and Liliana Felix each had one RBI.

On March 6 in the Pirates' 23-6 win over Porterville, Jenna Guzman went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Guzman also walked two times and scored five runs.
Emma Mulligan had five RBIs, while Jocelyn Diaz had four RBIs. Aryanna Gonzalez had three RBIs.
On March 8, Reedley High defeated Orange Cove High 10-0 in the Third Annual Dia- mond Dual.
The Pirates took an early 7-0 lead after two innings and rolled to the win.

On March 9, the Pirates beat Coalinga High 4-0 in their first game of the Javier Bejar Memorial Tournament.

Ava Galpin, Immanuel High Eagles girls basketball player, scored 26 points and had 18 rebounds to lead the Eagles
to a 43-37 victory over No. 2 seed Golden Valley High in
the Central Section Division III Championship on March 3 at Selland Arena in Fresno. Galpin then had 20 points and 17 rebounds to lead Immanuel to a 57-47 win over Polytechnic High on March 7 in the
 rst round of the CA State Division IV Championships at Immanuel High.

On March 7, Galpin led the Eagles with 20 points and 17 rebounds. Aaliyah Seuell had 16 points, while Gutierrez had 10 points and 15 rebounds.
IHS Boys Basketball
The Immanuel High Ea- gles boys basketball teams' season ended on March 7 with a 86-60 loss to University High in the first round of the CA State Division III playoffs.
The No. 15 seed Eagles fell behind 44-23 at halftime to the No. 2 seed University High of Los Angelas and were unable to recover.
The Eagles end the season with a 20-12 overall record.
They had won the Cen- tral Section Division III Title which was their fifth champi-
onship in a row.
“We definitely didn't play
our best,” said Chris Woods, Immanuel High boys basket- ball head coach. “I think we came out a little flat. We had some guys not feeling well, and I think a lot of the guys were exhausted from the trip down south. It was tough to lose our last game, but the guys did finish the game play- ing hard.”
Nate Kendricks, play- ing in his final game for Im- manuel, scored 24 points. Gavin Lloyd had 11 points and Shawn Rodgers had eight.
“I'm so proud of the way the guys overcame adver- sity this year and completely bought into the program,” Woods said. “I thanked all the guys for a very memorable first year coaching. We ex- perienced a double overtime loss, a buzzer beater win and a 17-point comeback to win a Valley Championship. It was a full year of experiences for all of us.”

Carissa Hall, Immanuel High Eagles track and field athlete, won the triple jump at the Clovis East High School Meet on March 10 in Clovis. Hall also earned second place in the 400-meter race.
