The Garden Check- list is filled with tips and tricks for local gar- deners who wish to keep their greenery, flowers, and herbs looking beau- tiful all year long.
A houseplant is sim- ply an outdoor plant brought inside. Light requirements vary for indoor plants but most of them will not tolerate direct summer son.
Tasks for this time of year include checking drip emitters to adjust flow and remove clogs.
Pinch off side shoots of dahlias and keep them well irrigated and fertil- ized.
Support any heavily laden branches of fruit and nut trees.
When pruning, dead- head roses, remove suckers and unwanted branches, and prune to improve air circulation.
Divide iris every 2 or 3 years and replant new rhizomes.
Fertilize annuals and roses for fall bloom.
Any planting this month will require ad- equate water and sun protection.
If you plant shrubs or trees, be sure to provide adequate water and sun protection.
Bulbs, corms, tubers: Watsonia.

showed up to the grand opening of the Grocery Outlet in Sanger and everything worked per- fectly.
The new Grocery Outlet is in the same building where Merry Mart use to be. Sanger natives know the place.
I showed up to the grand opening with our latest equipment in hand almost whispering to the camera to behave, do its job and not embarrass me. Thankfully it lis- tened.
I used the camera again on August 3. This story wasn’t so pleasant. A 79-year-old man was driving along Dinuba Avenue when he crashed his vehicle.
The car hit a tree and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe he may have had some type of medical emergency be-

fore the crash. The car was not heavily dam- aged. Matter of fact, it wasn’t damaged much at all. One wouldn’t think that to be a fatal acci- dent.
I stood out at the scene with Danny Jimenez as he took pho- tos. “WellDanny,”Isaid. “I guess when it’s our time to go, it’s our time.”
Danny looked back and said, “Yep.”
With this scene still fresh in my mind, and feeling a bit down, I came back to the office to find an letter on my desk.
I could tell by the handwriting that the let- ter was from Wayne.
I opened the letter and began reading. The details of Wayne’s letter put me in a better mood, and I was reminded again of why I enjoy my job and telling the stories I do. Thank you Wayne for taking the time to write to me. I truly ap- preciate it!
