The View From Here
As I sat and worked on the “Year in Re- view” for this week’s Life- style’s Section, I remembered there was a huge change in our news- paper halfway through 2019.
It was back in July that the Reedley Exponent, Sanger Herald and Dinuba Sentinel merged and became the Mid Valley Times.
Since then, a few added changes have also taken place. I now work at the Sanger of- fice instead of the Reedley office. However I still cover news in Reedley, Orange Cove and even Dinuba.
I also work with Rick Cu- riel. Rick worked in Dinuba before making the switch to Sanger as well.
Dick Sheppard, the long- time Herald editor retired. So the changes have been signifi- cant to say the least.
Back when I was in col- lege, I took a psychology class. OnelessonIspecifical- ly remember is our professor talking about how change is the biggest stress for people in life. One would think it’s finances, or death of a loved one, which also attribute to change, but overall any type of change, even small chang- es in an everyday routine or schedule can prompt a stress response from people.
To say that we’ve handled the changes well would be an understatement. I feel that we’ve all excelled at how we’ve approached the cover- age of our news. Jon Earnest still works in Reedley and to- gether with George Villagra- na who works in the Dinuba office we’ve made the change less stressful than it was sup- pose to be.
I am grateful for the team I work with, this also includes the office staff, and print staff as well.
And I'm most thankful for our readers and subscribers. Thank you to everyone who keeps up with our news cov- erage. In 2020, I am making several resolutions. One of those would be to be nicer to myself. I feel that sometimes I am extremely unforgiving in mistakes I have made. I want to change the way I respond to my mistakes.
I also want to be a better listener, and of course drink more water.
I have made it a point to set new goals for the upcom- ing year, I will try and revisit my goals and keep track of them to see if I've accom- plished them.
I wish everyone a safe and prosperous New Year.
