As of March 26, officers had been in- volved in 20 hours of enforcement, most of it taking place the week of March 18 along G Street and other locations down- town. According to Sgt. Todd Lowery, 27 citations had been issued during that pe- riod. Nine each were for making illegal u-turns and playing loud music, while another five citations were given for il- legally using a cellphone while driving. Three infractions were for a bicycle on the sidewalk while one seatbelt ticket was issued. Lowrey also said that six of the stops listed resulted in more than just the in- fractions mentioned. Other violations included unlicensed drivers or drivers using a suspended license. “There are 10 more days scheduled for this detail before it concludes,” Low- ery said in an email sent on March 26. That means police will be enforcing downtown traffic through the week of April 1-5. Police initiated the traffic details based on numerous complaints from community members and downtown businesses about unsafe driving habits and practices.
