Eagles girls win title, Pirates boys take second

The Immanuel High Ea- gles and Reedley High Pirates track and field teams put to- gether solid performances on April 6 at the Third Annual Kings River Games at the Immanuel Sports Complex.
The Eagles girls team compiled 83 points to defeat Reedley High, which took second-place with 78 points in the 15-team field.
The Pirates boys team was second overall behind Dinuba High.
Carissa Hall, Immanuel High sophomore, led the Ea- gles by winning three events. Hall took the top spots in the
long jump and triple jump. She also won the 400-meter race.
Hall also was a member of the 4x100 relay team that finished second. Hall was joined on the relay team by Paige Howard, Tamsen Taves and Ty Perry.
Ava Galpin took the top spot in the shot put for the Ea- gles, with a personal record throw of 34 feet, 1.25 inches.
Cristian Gomez, Reedley High senior distance runner, won first place in the 1600- and 3200-meter races to lead the Pirates boys team to a second place finish.

The Immanuel High Ea- gles baseball team defeated Dinuba High 7-1 on April 4 in Dinuba.
As of April 10, the Ea- gles were 4-1 in the Central Sequoia League.
Roman Rosales picked up the win on the mound. Trace Pires had two RBIs, while JT Friesen had one.
The Eagles then de- feated Central Valley Chris- tian High 16-0 on April 5 at the Immanuel High Sports Complex. No statistics were available for the game.
Immanuel High played Kingsburg High on April 10. No score was available
at presstime.
They then play Kings-
burg High on Thursday, April 10, at the Immanuel
High Sports complex.
The Eagles will begin a
two-game series against Ex- eter High on Tuesday, April 17, in Exeter.
IHS Boys Tennis
The Immanuel High Eagles boys tennis team defeated Selma High 6-3 on April 3 in Selma. They then defeated Kingsburg High 8-1 on April 5 at the Imman- uel High Sports Complex.
Immanuel played Central Valley Christian High on April 10. No score was available at presstime. The Eagles then play Selma High on Thurs- day, April 12, at the Immanuel High Sports Complex.
They will then play Ex- eter High on Tuesday, April 17, at the Immanuel High Sports Complex.

RHS baseball gets back on track with two wins

The Reedley High Pi- rates baseball team won two straight games with victo- ries over the Caruthers High Blue Raiders and the Men- dota High Aztecs.
The Pirates edged the Blue Raiders 8-7 on April 3 in Caruthers, before throt- tling the Aztecs 17-2 on April 5 in Reedley.
As of April 10, the Pi- rates were 8-6 overall.
On April 3, Oscar Lemus picked up the win, striking out six batters in the game.
Greg Quintanilla went 3-for- 5 with two RBIs, while Jus- tin Rackley was 3-for-5 and Roger Ortiz was 3-for-4.
On April 5, Ortiz earned the win on the mound pitch- ing six innings, allowing two runs and striking out six bat- ters.
Jacob Franco hit a home run and had six RBIs, while Ortiz also was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Justin Lopez was 3-for-4 with a double and Matt Vargas and Diego Ra- nallo each had a double.

After ending the first round of North Yosemite League play 4-1, the Reed- ley High Pirates boys tennis team is in position to capture a league championship.
The Pirates are current- ly 10-1 overall and in sec- ond place in the NYL, one game behind Roosevelt High School.
Randy Lepp, Reedley High head coach, said he be- lieves going 6-0 in their pre- season matches and an early start to workouts is the cata- lyst to the team's early suc- cess.
“Our matches in league have all been close and noth- ing has been easy,” Lepp said. “I think the fact that we starting practicing early in November was a key to hav- ing a good season.”
Lepp, who is in his first season coaching the boys team, led the Pirates girls team to a NYL Championship in the fall.
The Pirates had pre-sea- son wins over Orosi, Madera, Tulare Union, Selma, Sierra and Kingsburg high school's in their pre-season.
The Pirates have defeated Sunnyside, Fresno, Hoover and McLane high school's. The Pirates only loss this sea- son was to NYL foe Roosevelt High 5-4 on March 15.
Reedley High defeated Fresno High 6-3 on April 4 at Reedley High, then beat Hoover High 6-3 on April 5 in Fresno. They also defeated McLane High 5-4 on April 9.
