Staff Report
The Reedley City Coun- cil and the city honored Reedley College’s state-win- ning Agriculture and Natu- ral Resources Program with a certificate of recognition during the Aug. 14 regular council meeting.
The certificate was in recognition of the program’s June 27 award for premier Post Secondary Program in the state, presented at the annual California Agricul- tural Teachers Association in San Luis Obispo.
Donna Berry, Reedley College president, called it an “honor and privilege to be here to accept this certif- icate of recognition. We’re very proud of our agricul- ture and natural resource program here.”
Representing the col- lege at the meeting along with Berry were Dale Van Dam, vice president of instruction; David Clark,
dean of the college’s ca- reer/technical education programs; Nick Deftereos, division chair and an ag in- structor at the college; and David Lopes, animal sci- ence instructor. Also pres- ent was Ron Nishinaka, former longtime instructor at the college and trustee for the State Center Com- munity College District.
Mayor Anita Betan- court read from the proc- lamation honoring the program. “We salute you for your commitment to excellence and your dedi- cation to the community of Reedley,” she read.
Council member Mary Fast shared her appreciation for the college’s ag program.
“I don’t know how many of you know, but a lot of the people that come out of Reedley College get full-time jobs right away,” she said. “They’re in demand in our state because of the training of these people here.”

Reedley’s Daniel Luke Hein- richs, 18, officially became an Ea- gle Scout when he was presented with an Eagle Court of Honor dur- ing an Aug. 18 ceremony at the Di- nuba Mennonite Brethren Church.
Scout Chaplin Aaron Jaramillo delivered the invocation. Robert Takacs was the Master of Ceremo- nies and assistant senior patrol leader while Nicholas Lopez led the presentation of the colors, scout law and scout oath. Members of Heinrichs’ family and friends were in attendance along with scouts from Reedley Lions-sponsored Troop 282.
Scouting’s highest rank ad- vancement is the Eagle Scout. It exemplifies the virtues of service, leadership, and duty to God.
Heinrichs now joins the 4 per- cent in ranks of the Best of the Best in Scouting.
Daniel’s accomplishments took a lot of reinforcement over the years from his family, Scout lead- ers, and fellow Scouts. However, once he started he was a devoted, hard worker at any task that he was asked to do. During the cer- emony he honored his parents with their Eagle Parent pins. Both parents spoke of his achievements
