Krause teleconference on Turkey walk will be March 30

Reedley native Matt Krause, who now lives in Turkey, will talk about his 2017 book detailing his experience in 2012-13 walking solo across the Mideast country during a Friday, March 30, teleconference hosted by the Reedley Peace Center.
The public is invited to the 6:30 p.m. free event at the Peace Center, which meets at the First Mennonite Church at 1208 L St. Krause — who was profiled in an August 2012 issue of The Exponent while training for the 1,300-mile walk — began his trek Sept. 1, 2012. He completed the

Mary Gonzales
Mary J. Estrada Gonza- les of Reedley died March 17 in Fresno. She was 66.
Mrs. Gonzales was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, four sons, one daughter, three brothers, four sisters, five grand- children and two great- grandchildren.
A Rosary and Mass were held March 23 at the old St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Reed- ley.
Virgil Goossen
Virgil W. Goossen of Reedley died March 21 in Reedley. He was 89.
Mr. Goossen was a farmer.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, one daugh- ter, two brothers, one sis- ter, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchil- dren.

Krause made the trip across Turkey with his backpack, sleeping bag and tent as well as a computer, some photography equipment, clothes, toiletries and two pairs of shoes.

The Reedley Exponent is one of Fresno County’s oldest newspapers. It was established in March, 1891, in the Knauer residence on the corner of what now is F and 11th streets. Brenda Magnuson was born to Arvil
and Thelma Boen on February 13, 1945 in
Oark, Arkansas. She moved with her parents to
Orange Cove and nally to Reedley at the age of four. She attended Riverview Elementary and graduated from Reedley High School in 1963. It was during her senior year that she met the love of her life, William (Bill) Magnuson, while dragging the main in Reedley. They were married in Reedley on August 16, 1963. They had three children together, a daughter and two sons. Together they forged a great heritage that their children and grandchildren will forever try to uphold.
Brenda was always involved in whatever her husband, children and grandchildren were involved in. She was a former PTA president and secretary of Lone Star Elementary, a proud member of the Lone Star Farm Bureau and very involved in all aspects in her church. She loved to attend any performance, musical event or sport that her kids and grandchildren were participants in.
She is survived by her children, Katharine Chamberlin and her husband Rick, Bryan Magnuson and his wife Lois, and Bruce Magnuson and his wife Dawn, her grandchildren, Rikki, Rebekah, Rachel and Wyatt Chamberlin, Emily Robinett and her husband Nathan, Brianna Lindenmeyer and her husband Kyle, Samuel, Phillip and Nicholas Magnuson, and her sister DeAnna Hamm and her husband Ron.
She is preceded by her husband of 54 years, William Magnuson, her parents Arvil and Thelma Boen, her sister Carolyn Jean and her brothers, Larry Dale and Eugene Boen.
Her family will always remember her giving and loving spirit as will those whose lives she touched. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Services will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the Kingsburg Evangelical Covenant Church at 11:00 am with a light lunch to follow. Creighton memorial will be making arrangements.

Before being appointed county health officer, Bird provided direct patient care at a rural clinic in Coalinga, was the medical director in the Fresno County Jail, and was the tuberculosis control- ler for Fresno County.
Bird worked for Fresno County for nearly 30 years.

Lorenzo Herrera
Lorenzo Herrera of Reedley died March 24 in Fresno. He was 19.
Mr. Herrera worked as a custodian.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at the new St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Reedley. A Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, at the new St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Norma Vigil
Norma Vigil of Dinuba died March 25 in Dinuba. She was 56.
Mrs. Vigil was a home- maker.

Funeral Services
Reedley and the Central Valley received a bit of
relief from the dry winter conditions with three
days of rain last week. Reedley received about an inch of rain between March 20-22, according to the National Weather Service. Season rainfall totals in the Vallley and state remains well below normal, the NWS reported. No rain is in the forecast in the region through next week, the weather service reported.
