a near six-mile chase toward Parlier ended when the ve- hicle got stuck in a dirt field, sheriff’s officials said passen- gers Herrera and Bray fled on foot.
A CHP officer carrying a handgun confronted Herrera, who law enforcement said briefly pointed a .22 caliber rifle at the officer. Herrera surrendered without incident after other officers arrived at the scene.
Herrera was charged with felony burglary and fel- ony assault on a police officer while Bray and Ambriz were charged with felony burglary. Bray and Ambriz both were released on bail.
Herrera’s mother, Anna Herrera, said in a brief tele- phone interview that her son was hired as an on-call custo- dian with the Kings Canyon Unified School District in De- cember.
Herrera was a 2016 grad- uate of Reedley High School. Surviving family includes his parents, a brother and a sister.
Botti urged anyone who may have additional informa- tion about Herrera to contact sheriff’s Det. Mark Chapman at (559) 600-8209 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-7867 (STOP). Persons giving tips remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward, Botti said.

Staff Report
Police arrested a 32-year-old Reedley man on multiple drugs and weapons charges after four firearms, three of them semi-automatic or automatic, were recovered from a south Reedley home.
Santiago Machado Cardenas was booked in- to the Fresno County Jail on March 21. Charges included possession of a firearm by a felon or narcotic drug user.
After receiving multiple complaints from neighbors, Reedley police served a search war- rant on March 20 at a residence in the 100 block of West Carpenter Avenue, just east of Frank- wood Avenue, at about 4:30 p.m,, according to Lt. Hector Aleman. Detectives and officers recov- ered high-grade marijuana and other drug de- vices. During a search of a back bedroom closet, officers found four guns — an AR-15 rifle with two 30-round magazines, an AK-47 style rifle with 30-round magazines, a 12-gauge semiauto- matic shotgun with two different sizes of mag- num round shells, and a basic 12-gauge shotgun.
Cardenas wasn’t at the home when police conducted the search. They found him and ar-
