Reedley College did what was expected of them on the basketball court. The Tiger men won their first two conference games at home. But things will get a lot tougher for Reedley in the upcoming days.
Coach T.J. Jennings’ Tigers improved to 11-5 overall and 2-0 in confer- ence with a 91-73 victory Saturday over the win- less West Hills College Falcons. Reedley opened conference action three nights earlier with a 74-70 win over the West Hills Lemoore Golden Eagles.
The Tigers started the first conference road trip by heading to Sonora Jan. 15 to take on the Columbia
College Claim Jumpers. Columbia came in unde- feated and ranked fourth in the state before suffer- ing a 10-point loss to Fres- no City College.
On Saturday, Jan. 18, Reedley heads to Visalia for a 5 p.m. matchup with eighth ranked College of the Sequoias. COS also faced Fresno last Saturday night.
On Wednesday, Jan. 22, the Tigers travel to Mer- ced before returning home to face Fresno City College on Saturday, Jan. 22.
Against West Hills Coalinga, all eight Tigers that saw action had scored in the first 12 minutes and six of them made 3-point- ers. Reedley never trailed and scored 15 of the game’s first 20 points.
six straight points before a Braxton Hicks steal got the lead back to 60-48. Within a span of a minute in the second half, Hassan Bolden hit a 3-pointer and had a windmill slam dunk to increase the Tiger lead to 69-53.
Four Tigers scored in double figures, led by Has- san Bolden with 24 points. Uriah Carter (four 3-point- ers) was next with 20, fol- lowed by Anthony Martinez with 11 (three 3-pointers) and Richard Corona with 10.
Reedley came back from a 40-34 halftime def- icit to defeat West Hills Lemoore 74-70. Uriah Carter led the Tigers with 26 points and six steals. Hassan Bolden was next with 15 points and 13 re- bounds.
EMPERORS
Continued from B1
the fourth quarter on a basket by Andy Gonzalez, 65-39.
The win ended a brief two-game los- ing skid by the Emperors who improved to 16-4 overall as Reedley dropped to 12- 4.
Dinuba also had two other players reach double figures as Flores ended with 15 and Bryan Ruiz had 13.
Earlier in the week, the Emperors lost a close game at Tulare Western,
77-73, on Jan. 8. Magaña poured in 27 points and Elias Flores added 15. In a key Central Sequoia League game at Kingsburg on Jan. 7, the Vikings pulled away in the second half for a 71-55 win.
Reedley tried to snap its two-game slide when it opened North Yosemite League play on the road against Fresno High on Jan. 14 (results were unavail- able at press time). The Pirates’ league home opener will be at 6:30 p.m. Thurs- day, Jan. 16, against Roosevelt High. Reedley’s remaining regular season schedule is against NYL opponents.

Two scoring runs led Reedley to the easy win over the Cougars. The Lady Tigers extended a 6-5 lead by scoring 20 straight points on the way to a 26-9 first quarter lead. After Taft scored the first basket of the second quarter, Reedley ran off the next 20 points to take a 46-11 lead. The halftime score was 53-15 in favor of Reedley.
Taft brought only seven healthy players to Reedley and lost two of them to injury in the first half. One of them, fresh- man guard Sam Wash- burn of Katy, TX, scored 42 of the team’s 50 points in a Jan. 7 loss to Sequoi- as. Washburn had scored only two points before she was injured with three minutes and 49 seconds left in the first half.
Sam Mendoza (Di- nuba) and Aurelie Bevao

Brianna Rodriguez made seven 3-pointers and led Taft (0-2, 2-14) with 22 points.
The Tigers dropped their conference opener to West Hills Lemoore 64-56 on Jan. 29 in Reed- ley. The game was tied at 29-all at halftime before West Hills took control by scoring 22 third quarter points to only 10 for the Tigers. Reedley managed only two field goals in that third quarter.
Tristan Randle had 15 of her game high 23 points in the second half to lead the Tigers. Sam Mendoza had all 11 of her points in the second half. All nine West Hills Lemoore play- ers scored, led by Luziena Parks with 16 points.
