Pirates girls soccer falls to Fowler

After starting the season 6-1-1, the Reedley High Pi- rates girls soccer team has lost five of their last seven games.
The Pirates are currently 7-6-2 overall after a 3-2 non- league loss to the Fowler High Redcats on Dec. 28 at Sal Gon- zalez Field.
Fowler took an early 1-0 lead 14 minutes into the game on a goal by Victoria De Leon.
The Pirates answered back to tie the game at 1-1, with 16 minutes left in the first half.
Reedley High's Kiki Su- namoto raced down the home sideline and passed the ball to her sister, Miko Sunamoto, who was streaking down the middle of the field. Miko got past a Fowler defender and scored.
But, Fowler scored again in the final two minutes of the first half and held a 2-1 half- time lead.
They increased their lead
to 3-1 five minutes into the second half after De Leon scored her second goal of the game.
Down by the same score with five minutes left in the game, the Pirates cut the Fowler lead to 3-2 when Anahi Jaramillo scored a goal on a free kick from 15 yards away.
Reedley High was unable to score in the final five min- utes and lost.
The Pirates played Monache High School on Jan. 3 in Porterville. No score was available at presstime.
The Pirates will then open defense of their 2017 North Yosemite League title on Wednesday, Jan. 10, against Sunnyside High School at Sal Gonzalez Field.
They then will play Roosevelt High School on Fri- day, Jan. 12, at Sal Gonzalez Field.
RHS Boys Basketball
The Reedley High Pirates boys basketball team moved
to 6-6 overall after a 52-39 vic- tory over Granite Hills High School.
The Pirates defeated the Grizzlies from Porterville on Dec. 28 at Reeedley High School.
The Pirates competed in the Jesse Lujan Memorial Tournament Jan. 3 to Satur- day, Jan. 6, in Selma.
Reedley High opened the tournament on Jan. 3 against Madera High.

RHS Girls Basketball
The Reedley High Pirates girls basketball team will compete in the Yosemite High Tournament Thursday, Jan. 4, to Saturday, Jan. 6.
They then will play Dinuba High School on Tues- day, Jan. 9, at Reedley High
School.
Reedley High opens NYL
play on Friday, Jan. 12, against Sunnyside High School at Reedley High.

IHS plays in Elks Classic

The Immanuel High Ea- gles let a 10-point second half lead slip away and lost to El Capitan High School 64-54 on Dec. 27 in the first round of the Clovis Elks Classic.
The Elks Classic was held Dec. 27 to Dec. 30 at Clovis High School.
The Eagles ended the Elks Classic 2-2 and as of Jan. 3 were 8-7 overall.
“I think we played very well at the Elks Tournament,”said Chris Woods, Immanuel High head coach. “We are a young team still putting pieces together and are progressing very well in the right direction.”
On Dec. 27, Nate Kend- ricks led the Eagle with 24 points, while Gavin Lloyd had 11.
On Dec. 28, the Eagles re- bounded with a 73-63 victory over Johansen High School from Modesto.
Kendricks had 25 points, while Lloyd added 15.
Immanuel then defeated Petaluma High School 62-54 on Dec. 29 on the third day of the Elks Classic.
The Eagles trailed 36-32 at halftime before a strong second half propelled them to the win.
Kendricks had 36 points and nine rebounds. Mitch Ny- dam had 11 points.
Immanuel fell to Hanford High School 68-65 on Dec. 30 in the final day of the tourna- ment.

After six weeks on the road, the Reedley College Ti- gers men's basketball team returned to Reedley College for a game against Hartnell College and beat the Panthers 82-74.
The Tigers erased a 32-29 halftime deficit on Dec. 30 to defeat the Panthers from Sa- linas.

lege is 4-8 overall.
Ruben Parks led the Ti-
gers with 23 points. Hassan Bolden had 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Alfredo Jimenez had 17 points. Elijah Jefferies had 11 points.

The Immanuel High Ea- gles girls basketball team is 8-4 overall following compet- inginthe ClovisKiwanisNew Years Classic.
The Eagles lost to the Sanger High School Apaches 44-39 in the first round of the Classic that was held Dec. 27
to Dec. 30 at Buchanan High School in Clovis.
The Eagles trailed 26-20 at halftime before rallying back in the third quarter to tie the game at 30-30. The Apaches
outlasted the Eagles in the fourth quarter to earn the win. Aaliyah Seuell had 19 points for Immanuel, while
Ava Galpin had six points. “First and foremost, God gets all the glory for any of the teams' success. The team fought very hard all four games, especially with how they were officiated, and kept their heads. They played with a high level of physical-
