Fresno to begin its 2020 water deliveries on May 1
Angel Ortiz, franchise owner of Dinuba’s Ken- tucky Fried Chicken along with several workers and City of Dinuba Mayor, Kuldip Tsutsu, spent the afternoon of April 16 providing a free lunch to members of the commu- nity. Ortiz said 108 meals from KFC were provided for the Senior Center, the Dinuba Police and Fire De- partments and the city’s public works. Ortiz, who also owns the Reedley KFC franchise, said he provid- ed 100 lunches to workers at Adventist Health in Reedley on April 10.

MVT Staff Report
Rain in the Central Valley the past month has been a welcome sight for many, especially area farmers. And because of those rains, Fresno Irriga- tion District announced on March 19 that it will begin its 2020 water deliv- eries to growers on Friday, May 1.
“After experiencing the second driest February on record, the recent storms and cooler weather have bol- stered snowpack conditions enough to allow for a May 1 start,” said FID General Manager Bill Stretch.
“We wanted to make this decision as early as possible to help our grow- ers plan irrigations during this drier than normal spring,’ Stretch added.
According to the FID, recent down- pours in the region increased the pro- jected Kings River runoff by as much
as 49 percent, with more rain last week adding to the total.
Depending on future precipitation, FID anticipates it will be able to make deliveries through July, making for an expected three-month run.
The district’s Kings River entitle- ment depends upon each day’s natu- ral river runoff. While FID receives most of its surface water supplies from the Kings River, FID also re- ceives San Joaquin River supplies via the Bureau of Reclamation’s Central Valley Project.
Prior to the March-April storms, the Bureau announced on Feb. 25 a 20 percent Class 1 allocation and 0 per- cent Class 2 allocation. But on April 21, the Bureau increased its Class 1 allocation to 55 percent for Friant Division contractors because of the recent storms.
